Israel will always be God’s chosen people. They will be refined in fire and the remnant will worship Him in truth.
Micah 6:8
8 He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justly,
To love mercy,
And to walk humbly with your God?
To help us differentiate between specific promises and timeless promises in Scripture, here are four questions we can ask when we approach a passage:
1. What is the context of the promise?
2. Is the promise directed toward a specific person or group of people?
3. Is the promise connected to a specific time or event in history?
4. If this is a specific promise God made to a person/people in the past, what principles can I learn from it today?
Woven into this are the fundamental truths that God is good, that He pursues His people in spite of their disobedience, and that His plan for His people remains even when they face consequences of sinful choices. First5
Seeing and engaging with the world right in front of me, doesn't deny pain or cruelty or injustice. What it does do, is to remind me that there is a world (right in front of me) where I can bring my whole self. Where I can choose. And give, and try, and care. Yes, regardless of the outcome. And when I stop... in order to see the world right in front of me, I realize that it doesn't matter what I expect from life, but what life expects from me. And there, I know, and see, that no act of kindness, however small, is ever, ever wasted. Sabbath Moments
The last section of Zephaniah’s prophecy contains words of hope (3:8–20): promises of protection for the remnant and promises for the future of those who know Him truly. In a future day, peoples of all nations will come to worship the Lord (2:11; 3:9). His own people will be renewed in righteousness (3:11–13). And the King of kings Himself will rule in their midst (3:15; see Rev. 21:1–6). That day of the Lord’s return will be a day of song and gladness. Even God will burst out in joyful singing (3:16, 17). The raging anger of the Lord (1:1, 2) will be replaced by His happy singing, for salvation will finally have come to His people. The NKJV Study Bible
Revelation 2
1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” 5 Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.” 6 And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. 7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.
Zephaniah
3:8-13
8 “Therefore wait for Me,” says the Lord,
“Until the day I rise up for plunder;
My determination is to gather the nations
To My assembly of kingdoms,
To pour on them My indignation,
All My fierce anger;
All the earth shall be devoured
With the fire of My jealousy.
9 “For then I will restore to the peoples a pure language,
That they all may call on the name of the Lord,
To serve Him with one accord.
10 From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia
My worshipers,
The daughter of My dispersed ones,
Shall bring My offering.
11 In that day you shall not be shamed for any of your deeds
In which you transgress against Me;
For then I will take away from your midst
Those who rejoice in your pride,
And you shall no longer be haughty
In My holy mountain.
12 I will leave in your midst
A meek and humble people,
And they shall trust in the name of the Lord.
13 The remnant of Israel shall do no unrighteousness
And speak no lies,
Nor shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth;
For they shall feed their flocks and lie down,
And no one shall make them afraid.”
2:11
11 The Lord will be awesome to them,
For He will reduce to nothing all the gods of the earth;
People shall worship Him,
Each one from his place,
Indeed all the shores of the nations.
3:15
15 The Lord has taken away your judgments,
He has cast out your enemy.
The King of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst;
You shall see disaster no more.
16 In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem:
“Do not fear; Zion,
let not your hands be weak.
17 The Lord your God in your midst,
The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.”
Micah 4:6 |
“In that day,” says the LORD,
“I will assemble the lame,
I will gather the outcast
And those whom I have afflicted;
Micah 4:7
I will make the lame a remnant,
And the outcast a strong nation;
So the LORD will reign over them in Mount Zion
From now on, even forever.
Zephaniah 3:5
The LORD is righteous in her midst,
He will do no unrighteousness.
Every morning He brings His justice to light;
He never fails,
But the unjust knows no shame.
Revelation 14:5
And in their mouth was found no deceit,
for they are without fault before the throne of God.
The LORD gives voice before His army,
For His camp is very great;
For strong is the One who executes His word.
For the day of the LORD is great and very terrible;
Who can endure it?
Ezekiel 37:26
Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them,
and it shall be an everlasting covenant with them;
I will establish them and multiply them,
and I will set My sanctuary in their midst forevermore.
Ezekiel 37:27
My tabernacle also shall be with them;
indeed I will be their God,
and they shall be My people.
Ezekiel 37:28
The nations also will know that I,
the LORD, sanctify Israel,
when My sanctuary is in their midst forevermore.”
