The Gospel of Matthew Faith pleases our Father!

The Jews rejection of Jesus Christ as their Messiah allowed Gentiles to enter into the Body of Christ. He came to His own and His own knew Him not. They never realized the eternal gift they handed to us. We owe them a debt of gratitude.

Faith pleases our Father! In the measure that we accept the Scriptures by faith we can receive the teachings of Holy Spirit.

Mark 6:2 And when the Sabbath had come, He began to teach in the synagogue. And many hearing Him were astonished, saying, “Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands!

Luke 23:38 And an inscription also was written over Him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew:THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS

The Gospel of Matthew is the first book in the New Testament and is believed to have been written by the Apostle Matthew, also known as Levi. Matthew was a tax collector before he became a disciple of Jesus (Matthew 9:9), and his Gospel emphasizes Jesus' Jewish heritage and the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies through His life and teachings. Matthew's original audience was primarily Jewish Christians who were familiar with Jewish customs and the Hebrew Scriptures. Matthew recounts the life and teachings of Jesus as a narrative but also includes a significant amount of Jesus' sermons and teaching material, especially the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7). The Gospel of Matthew was likely written in Antioch, Syria, between A. D. 50 and A. D. 60. First5

So we pause and remember that the kingdom of heaven begins with Jesus’ affirmation, “unless you become like a child.” A paradigm shift in values from powerful, privileged and controlling to fragile, vulnerable and receptive. Yes, smack dab in the intersection of God’s grace and our response to embrace (receive and be embraced by) His transformative endowment. Sabbath Moments

You can talk to God because he listens. Your voice matters in heaven. He takes you very seriously. No need to fear you’ll be ignored. Even if you stammer or stumble, even if what you have to say impresses no one, it impresses God—and he listens. Intently, carefully. Your prayer on earth activates God’s power in heaven

As Scripture says, “Thy will is done on earth as it is done in heaven.” The prayers are honored as precious jewels. You may not understand the mystery of prayer; you don’t need to. But this much is clear: actions in heaven begin when someone prays on earth. What an amazing thought! Max Lucado

Matthew’s Gospel serves several purposes beyond presenting a mere biography of Jesus. One purpose is to prove to Jewish readers that Jesus is their Messiah and promised King. The genealogy in chapter 1 points to Christ as the One who inherited God’s promises to David of an eternal dynasty. Jesus’ use of a familiar messianic psalm in Matthew 22:41–44 would have clearly implied to any Jew that He was the heir of the Davidic throne. Even though many Jews of Jesus’ time were blind to Jesus’ identity, Gentiles (such as the wise men) identified Him as Israel’s promised King when He was a baby. Finally, the charge that hung above Jesus’ head on the Cross clearly highlights His royalty: THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS (27:37). But most important, the Book of Matthew proves Jesus’ legitimate authority by highlighting His wise teaching and righteous life (7:28, 29). The NKJV Study Bible

Matthew 22:41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, 42 saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?” They said to Him, “The Son of David.” 43 He said to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying: 44 ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool” ’?

Matthew 27:37 And they put up over His head the accusation written against Him: THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS

Matthew 7:28 And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, 29 for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

The New King James Version

They are assembled for the purpose of testing Jesus.

The placard identified the charge against Jesus, declaring Him a messianic pretender and a political threat to Rome. Ironically, this sign proclaims Jesus’ true identity.

The crowds immediately recognize Jesus’ authority. He does not interpret or teach based on the interpretation of earlier rabbis, as was the custom; rather, He speaks prophetically on behalf of God.

After answering three questions posed by Israel’s religious leaders, Jesus turned to the Pharisees with a question of His own. The question had two parts, a first about the identity of the Messiah and a second about the interpretation of Psalm 110.

Psalm 110 1 “The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.” 2 The Lord shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion. Rule in the midst of Your enemies! 3 Your people shall be volunteers In the day of Your power; In the beauties of holiness, from the womb of the morning, You have the dew of Your youth. 4 The Lord has sworn And will not relent, “You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek.” 5 The Lord is at Your right hand; He shall execute kings in the day of His wrath. 6 He shall judge among the nations, He shall fill the places with dead bodies, He shall execute the heads of many countries. 7 He shall drink of the brook by the wayside; Therefore He shall lift up the head.

Putting the Gospel accounts together, the accusation probably read “This is Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews”

Scribes would often cite authorities in order to lend credence to their statements. Jesus’ words were self-authenticating.
