Isaiah 59:15-27

Our God is good! He is a loving Father.

Oh praise the Holy Trinity!

For God so loved the world that He gave us His Son to die in our place. Our Redeemer King, Jesus Christ. He did not leave us to our own devices but gave us Holy Spirit to guide us safely home.

Ephesians6:11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

Richard Rohr “The good news is that there is a guide, a kind of inner compass—and it resides within each of us. As the Scriptures put it, ‘the love of God has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us’ (Romans 5:5). This Holy Spirit, described in John’s Gospel as an ‘advocate’ (John 14:16), guides all of us from home and toward home. The Holy Spirit is entirely for us, more than we are for ourselves, it seems. Terry Hershey “SabbathMoments “

John 16:33: "I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."

Even when pieces of our heart feel broken in this broken world we live in, I find comfort in knowing Jesus is sovereign over it all. We can release the weight and burdens we're struggling to carry in our feeble hands and place all our needs in the hands of our faithful God. Lysa TerKeust  “First5”

Isaiah 59:15-27

Then the Lord saw it, and it displeased Him That there was no justice. 16 He saw that there was no man, And wondered that there was no intercessor; Therefore His own arm brought salvation for Him; And His own righteousness, it sustained Him. 17 For He put on righteousness as a breastplate, And a helmet of salvation on His head; He put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, And was clad with zeal as a cloak. 18 According to their deeds, accordingly He will repay, Fury to His adversaries, Recompense to His enemies; The coastlands He will fully repay. 19 So shall they fear The name of the Lord from the west, And His glory from the rising of the sun; When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him. 20 “The Redeemer will come to Zion, And to those who turn from transgression in Jacob,” Says the Lord. 21 “As for Me,” says the Lord, “this is My covenant with them: My Spirit who is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your descendants, nor from the mouth of your descendants’ descendants,” says the Lord, “from this time and forevermore.” The New King James Version

Their lack of faith has prevented them from experiencing the full blessing that was promised. The redemption is still ahead if they will turn back to God. The people’s inability to turn back to God on their own displeased God, but He knew that He alone was able to bring salvation. God is the only one who is able to fully keep His promises and fulfill the obligations of the covenant. This evokes the image of God as the Divine Warrior, arising to do battle on behalf of His people. His armor is symbolic and based on His attributes of righteousness and holiness. The armor of God (Ephesians 6:13–17) develops these concepts further.

Yahweh identifies Himself as Israel’s redeemer. This is either a third-person reference to Himself or a reference to another sent as Yahweh’s agent to be the redeemer. Redemption is the central theme. The promised salvation is still coming, but repentance is required. The Apostle Paul identifies this redeemer with Christ. The Spirit is upon the redeemer—the Messiah. The Servant is also promised offspring. It refers to the Servant-Messiah as redeemer. Faithlife Study Bible

Justice refers here to salvation. The Lord, using the first person, expresses the thought of this passage. God’s salvation does not depend on humans. His own arm figuratively represents the Lord as a warrior. Righteousness refers to the Lord’s victorious salvation. The Lord’s breastplate and helmet are taken up by His saints in their battle against the devil. Recompense to His enemies is translated “fully repays His enemies”. Coastlands indicates that the Lord’s adversaries were distant nations. However, He judged wicked Israelites as well. Only the repentant will be blessed. From the west … from the rising of the sun is another way of saying everywhere. When the enemy comes could also mean “when He comes as an enemy”. The Redeemer will come in the person of Jesus Christ.

God’s Spirit and words would be given to all Israel so that all would become prophets of the living God. The NKJV Study Bible

Psalm 113:3 From the rising of the sun to its going down the LORD’s name is to be praised.

Isaiah 63:5 I looked, but there was no one to help, and I wondered that there was no one to uphold; therefore My own arm brought salvation for Me; and My own fury, it sustained Me.

Jeremiah 31:31 “Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah—

Ezekiel 22:30 So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.
