Acts 16:31-34

Just B.E.L.I.E.V.E.

God is able to do exceedingly more than is possible on our own.

For God so love the world that He  gave us Jesus!

Jesus is our perfect example. He had all the power of God while He lived here on earth, yet He chose to lower Himself and live among the people. Over and over, He healed, loved, had compassion and served others. His ultimate example of humble leadership was displayed on the cross when He took the sins of the world on Himself so that we could have the inheritance of heaven. Before He rose from the dead and took His place eternally in heaven, He first walked to the cross and took our payment for sin. (Philippians 2:5-8) First5

How lovely to think that no one need wait a moment, we can start now, start slowly changing the world! How lovely that everyone, great and small, can make their contribution toward introducing justice straightaway... And you can always, always give something, even if it is only kindness! Anne Frank

Mark 16:16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

Acts 16:31-34

31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” 32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized. 34 Now when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household. The New King James Version

The events surrounding the arrest of Paul and Silas, the way they responded to suffering, and the mighty acts of God brought the jailer to his knees. He finally knew he needed God’s salvation. But how could he be reconciled to God? Paul and Silas’s answer was simple—just believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. No other work was needed. The jailer and his family placed their trust in God and immediately expressed that faith by being baptized. The NKJV Study Bible

This could mean that both the jailer and his family should believe in the gospel or that it is rather certain that those in the jailer’s family will also believe in the gospel if he does. By his hospitality the jailer demonstrates that his life has been radically changed by the gospel. He originally imprisoned Paul, but he now cares for the apostle in his own home. Faithlife Study Bible

Here is the sum of the whole gospel, the covenant of grace in a few words; Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. The Lord so blessed the word, that the jailer was at once softened and humbled. He treated them with kindness and compassion, and, professing faith in Christ, was baptized in that name, with his family. The Spirit of grace worked such a strong faith in them, as did away further doubt; and Paul and Silas knew by the Spirit, that a work of God was wrought in them. When sinners are thus converted, they will love and honour those whom they before despised and hated, and will seek to lessen the suffering they before desired to increase. When the fruits of faith begin to appear, terrors will be followed by confidence and joy in God. Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary
