Micah and Christ in the Scriptures

Only the Father knows when the end of time, as we understand it, will usher in the  beginning of Christs’ reign on earth. But every day it is closer.

Micah 4:5 And this One shall be peace.

For the last 25 years Holy Spirit has led me to what has become my personal mission statement:

Micah 6:8.

8 He has shown you, O man, what is good;

And what does the Lord require of you

But to do justly,

To love mercy,

And to walk humbly with your God?

I awoke this morning with this verse on my mind. Joshua 24:15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

Zechariah 10:12 “So I will strengthen them in the LORD, and they shall walk up and down in His name,”Says the LORD.

Micah and Christ in the Scriptures

Unlike the Book of Jonah, which took the burial and resurrection of Jesus for Israel to make sense out of what had occurred, Micah’s reference to the Messiah was quite explicit. From the time he verbalized God’s rebuke at the way the Jews were treating the poor until the time a poor carpenter and his fiancée arrived in Bethlehem, devout Jews knew that King David’s birthplace was where the Messiah would also be born.

Micah wrote the following about the town of Bethlehem seven hundred years before Jesus was born: “Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be Ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting” (5:2). And of that Ruler, he prophesied, “He will teach us His ways, and we shall walk in His paths.… Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore” (4:2, 3).

Micah 4:4-5

4 And He shall stand and feed His flock

In the strength of the Lord,

In the majesty of the name of the Lord His God;

And they shall abide,

For now He shall be great

To the ends of the earth;

5 And this One shall be peace.

Bethlehem  was a very small village at the time of Micah, with a population of only a few hundred. Bethlehem (“house of bread”) Ephrathah (“fruitful”) is located five miles south of Jerusalem in the Judaean hill country.  The region is known as Ephrath, hence the secondary designation. Bethlehem Ephrathah was the birthplace of David and Jesus. Bethlehem was located in the territory given to the tribe of Judah; however, it was not significant enough to be listed among the cities of Judah when the land was divided in the time of Joshua.

The Messiah existed from the beginning of time. Micah claims this Messiah, who existed from old, will shepherd the people of Israel and judge between people and nations. Faithlife Bible.

Bethlehem means “House of Bread”. Ephrathah locates the village in a known region in Judah. This prophecy figures significantly in the NT story of the visit of the wise men to the Christ child. Governments would be overturned to make it necessary for Mary while still pregnant to make the journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem. The birth of this Savior King would be unlike the birth of any other, because He was preexistent. He is from everlasting. NKJ Bible.

Leviticus 26:6 I will give peace in the land, and you shall lie down, and none will make you afraid;I will rid the land of evil beasts, and the sword will not go through your land.

Zechariah 3:10 In that day,’ says the LORD of hosts,‘Everyone will invite his neighbor under his vine and under his fig tree.’ ”
