He is the Lord, your God, He will not have idols, false gods, above Him. God corrects those He loves and we need to listen closely to Holy Spirit to overcome the evils of this world. In the United States it is easy to place money and prosperity above the simple truth of the salvation the Father gives in the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He shows no partiality between His children.
How do live out the life that He has given us? Jesus said it plainly…We love Him above all…any one, any place or any thing and love our neighbors as much as we do ourselves.
Love fulfills the Law.
“We are made for goodness. We are made for love. We are made for friendliness. We are made for togetherness. We are made for all of the beautiful things that you and I know. We are made to tell the world that there are no outsiders. All are welcome. We all belong to this family, this human family, God's family.” Archbishop Desmond Tutu
You see, we are wired to want lives that matter. To be connected. To make a difference. And yes, to spill hope.
We are wired to savor the sights and sound of the day.
We are wired to find grounding in wonder and awe.
We are wired to see the sacred in the ordinary, in the world and in the people around us.
So, here’s the deal: When we are present—attentive—we remember and embrace what matters. Terry Hershey “SabbathMoments “
It shouldn't surprise us when disciples like Peter and John started living out what they'd learned from Jesus with the authority given them from Jesus. The disciples came across a crippled man begging outside the temple: "But Peter said, 'I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk! ' And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong" (Acts 3:6-7). In our own strength, the impossible will stay impossible. But as we learn the heart and power of Jesus and keep our eyes open for moments when He wants us to step out in faith, He will provide divine power. The disciples were people like you and me. It's Jesus who makes the impossible possible. First5
Jeremiah 44:10-15
10 They have not been humbled, to this day, nor have they feared; they have not walked in My law or in My statutes that I set before you and your fathers.’
11 “Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: ‘Behold, I will set My face against you for catastrophe and for cutting off all Judah. 12 And I will take the remnant of Judah who have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to dwell there, and they shall all be consumed and fall in the land of Egypt. They shall be consumed by the sword and by famine. They shall die, from the least to the greatest, by the sword and by famine; and they shall be an oath, an astonishment, a curse and a reproach! 13 For I will punish those who dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence, 14 so that none of the remnant of Judah who have gone into the land of Egypt to dwell there shall escape or survive, lest they return to the land of Judah, to which they desire to return and dwell. For none shall return except those who escape.’ ”
Jeremiah prophesies against the entire population of Jews who fled to Egypt after the Babylonian invasion. He warns them against idolatry, using the destruction of Jerusalem to underscore the dire consequences of abandoning Yahweh again. The people’s defiant response follows their usual pattern of ignoring Jeremiah’s prophecies, but they also offer a surprisingly different interpretation of their present circumstances, blaming the national disaster not on Yahweh’s judgment but on the displeasure of the “Queen of Heaven.” Jeremiah turns their explanation back on them, declaring that the idol-worship occurring in Judah was the reason for Yahweh’s wrath. If they persist in idolatry in Egypt, they will again suffer the punishment of Yahweh by sword and famine. Faithlife Bible.
The present generation of Jews had learned nothing from the past failures of the nation. The people were not broken in heart, only more stubborn. The expression ‘I will set My face against you’ describes the will of God, here pronouncing judgment upon the rebellious Jews in Egypt. God had set His face against the remnant of Judah because they had set their face to enter Egypt against His will. NKJ Bible.
Jeremiah 42:18 “For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: ‘As My anger and My fury have been poured out on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so will My fury be poured out on you when you enter Egypt. And you shall be an oath, an astonishment, a curse, and a reproach; and you shall see this place no more.’
