The Tree Church
Pastor Matthew Johnson
You have a calling on your life. Every believer in Jesus is called according to God’s purposes.
You honor your calling by faith that leads to obedience. Culture will try to sell you a counterfeit version of your calling.
2 Kings 22:1 He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and did not turn to the right or left.
1 Kings 13:2 He calls out Josiah by name 300 years before his birth. The callings of God are irrevocable.
The truths of Josiah
1.Josiah had a calling from God established before he was born.
A. You have a calling from God established before you were born Psalm 139:13-16. God designed and created days for you. God alone knows the best for your life.
2.Josiah discovered his true calling when he obeyed the Word of God. 2 Kings 22:8-11and 22:19-20 In restoring the temple the book of the law of God was discovered. Josiah realizes that he was not following the law and he discovered his calling. His calling was to be a Godly King. He humbles himself the he discovered the book and changed his heart and mind God.
He removed the idols and placed God in HIs rightful place among the people. He fulfilled his calling in doing so.
B. It is not about what you do but how you do it. You calling can only be found in God’s plans for your life. Matthew 5:16 let your light shine! We are called to honor God with our life and show others the way to life in Jesus. 1 John 1:5 God is light and in Him is no darkness. As we walk in obedience to our calling we model a different way to live that honors Him.
Don’t get lost in the want but in the how we can mimic Jesus.
3. Josiah had a choice.
C. You have a choice. Luke 9:23 deny yourself and follow Jesus. We can temporary pleasured this life has to offer OR surrender our life to God and walk in obedience in everything we do. Deuteronomy 30:19-20 we can choose blessing or curse it is our choice.
Jeremiah 29:11-13 God’s plans for us are good. In choosing Him we will fulfill His plans. The moment we turn from our ways and choose His our life changes.
