Romans 14:10-12

We will answer to God not each other.

Without love we are just noise!

Speaking of voices that remind us of our connection, and the power it invites, today we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day (marking his birthday, which is January 15).

This is from a march for Integrated Schools, April 18, 1959.

The Law of Love

Romans 14:10-12

10 But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. 11 For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God.” 12 So then each of us shall give account of himself to God. 13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way. The New King James Version

Believers must not assume God’s role as judge because they in turn will stand before His judgment seat. Faithlife Study Bible

Paul addresses the weak and the strong. The weak are not to judge, and the strong are not to show contempt, the same word that is rendered “despise”. All believers are accountable to their Master, Jesus Christ, for they will appear before Him. At the judgment seat of Christ, every believer’s life will be evaluated to determine his or her reward. One day everyone will submit to God’s authority. He will judge all people before His great throne. The NKJV Study Bible

Though Christians are of different strength, capacities, and practices in lesser things, yet they are all the Lord’s; all are looking and serving, and approving themselves to Christ. He is Lord of those that are living, to rule them; of those that are dead, to revive them, and raise them up. Christians should not judge or despise one another, because both the one and the other must shortly give an account. Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary

Matthew 12:36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.

Philippians 2:10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,
