Just yesterday when we were delivering my sister to the airport to fly back to Texas we were discussing how negative my parents always speak. The lightbulb went off for her that maybe, could it be, that is where all this doomsday feelings come from within ourselves? Hmmmmm.
Thought to ponder…but wait this morning I open up to…Zephaniah! Maybe, just maybe, our thoughts are a reflection of the times that we are living in.
Zephaniah was a doomsayer. Forecasting through the Spirit of God the bad things that were awaiting the tribes. His redeeming factor according to the Scriptures is that he backed the bad news with the hope of good things to come if they would just turn from their wicked ways. Much like now, we want to call on God to save us from ourselves, but only on our terms.
Will man never learn? Mans’ half baked ideas will always fail…but with God all things are possible!
Zephaniah 1:2–3 (NKJV)
2 “I will utterly consume everything
From the face of the land,”
Says the Lord;
3 “I will consume man and beast;
I will consume the birds of the heavens,
The fish of the sea,
And the stumbling blocks along with the wicked.
I will cut off man from the face of the land,”
Says the Lord.
Zephaniah 1:6 (NKJV)
6 Those who have turned back from following the Lord,
And have not sought the Lord, nor inquired of Him.”
13“I will surely consume them,” says the Lord. “No grapes shall be on the vine, Nor figs on the fig tree, And the leaf shall fade; And the things I have given them shall pass away from them.” ’ ”
Jeremiah 8:13
4 Alas, sinful nation, A people laden with iniquity, A brood of evildoers, Children who are corrupters! They have forsaken the Lord, They have provoked to anger The Holy One of Israel, They have turned away backward.
Isaiah 1:4
13 “For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water.
Jeremiah 2:13
7 They are all hot, like an oven, And have devoured their judges; All their kings have fallen. None among them calls upon Me.
Hosea 7:7
