Acts 19:4-7

Spiritual gifts are given for our good and the good of all believers. Now we see in part but one day we will see the whole of God’s plan of salvation.

Acts 10:44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. 45 And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God.

1 Corinthians 12:4 Now there are different gifts, but the same Spirit. 12:5 And there are different ministries, but the same Lord. 12:6 And there are different results, but the same God who produces all of them in everyone. 12:7 To each person the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the benefit of all. 12:8 For one person is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, and another the message of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 12:9 to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 12:10 to another performance of miracles, to another prophecy, and to another discernment of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues. 12:11 It is one and the same Spirit, distributing as he decides to each person, who produces all these things.

2 Peter 3:18 says that as new creations, we grow in grace and knowledge of Jesus. In other words, knowing Jesus changes us. It transforms our hearts and minds. And transformed hearts and minds lead to transformed actions. Our lives look different.

Now, this difference is not always instantaneous, and it certainly doesn't mean we are now perfect. What it does mean is that we are being sanctified (1 Thessalonians 5:23). Every day we are becoming a little more like Jesus in grace, truth and love. FIRST5

God created everything that exists by divine fiat. John said in Revelation, “You, God, created everything, and it is for your pleasure that they exist and were created” (Revelation 4:11).

Even God asks, “To whom will you compare me?” And, as if his question needed an answer, he gives one: “I am God—I alone. I am God. There is no one else like me” (Isaiah 46:9). We can only stand before him with humility and praise his glorious name. Bless you, Lord. Max Lucado

Acts 19:4-7

4 Then Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.” 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. 7 Now the men were about twelve in all. The New King James Version

This is likely a reference to an act related to worship not miraculously speaking in another person’s native language. In Acts, speaking in tongues is related to the Holy Spirit indwelling and empowering believers. Faithlife Study

In the name of the Lord Jesus is a phrase as a declaration of ownership, an identification with Jesus as Lord and Savior of one’s life.

By laying on his hands here, Paul was demonstrating his apostolic authority. He was also affirming the unity of the new church in Ephesus with the church in Jerusalem, whose members were also were empowered by the Holy Spirit to speak in foreign languages This speaking in tongues was a sign to others that they were part of the body of Christ. The NKJV Study Bible

Though we do not now expect miraculous powers, yet all who profess to be disciples of Christ, should be called on to examine whether they have received the seal of the Holy Ghost, in his sanctifying influences, to the sincerity of their faith. Many seem not to have heard that there is a Holy Ghost, and many deem all that is spoken concerning his graces and comforts, to be delusion. Of such it may properly be inquired, “Unto what, then, were ye baptized?” for they evidently know not the meaning of that outward sign on which they place great dependence. Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary

Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Mark 1:4 John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

Mark 16:17 these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;

John 1:7 This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe.

Acts 6:6 whom they set before the apostles; and when they had prayed, they laid hands on them.
