1 Kings 14:12-13

God saves!

He will wipe every tear from our eyes and there will be peace.

Philippians 4:6-7

1 Kings 14:12-13

12 Arise therefore, go to your own house. When your feet enter the city, the child shall die. 13 And all Israel shall mourn for him and bury him, for he is the only one of Jeroboam who shall come to the grave, because in him there is found something good toward the Lord God of Israel in the house of Jeroboam.

The Hebrew phrase here can be rendered as “good thing” and often connotes a promise of Yahweh’s favor or fortune. Faithlife Bible.

Abijah’s character receives special divine consideration. Although the age of Jeroboam’s son is not certain, he may have been quite young. NKJ Bible.

Whether we keep an account of God’s mercies to us or not, he does; and he will set them in order before us, if we are ungrateful, to our greater confusion. Ahijah foretells the speedy death of the child then sick, in mercy to him. He only in the house of Jeroboam had affection for the true worship of God, and disliked the worship of the calves. To show the power and sovereignty of his grace, God saves some out of the worst families, in whom there is some good thing towards the Lord God of Israel. The righteous are removed from the evil to come in this world, to the good to come in a better world. It is often a bad sign for a family, when the best in it are buried out of it. Yet their death never can be a loss to themselves. Matthew Henry Commentary.

2 Chronicles 12:12 When he humbled himself, the wrath of the LORD turned from him, so as not to destroy him completely; and things also went well in Judah.

2 Chronicles 19:3 Nevertheless good things are found in you, in that you have removed the wooden images from the land, and have prepared your heart to seek God.”
