2 Peter 3:8-9

God wants no one to perish…No. Not. One.

He does not discourage us from asking questions. But He does want us to trust totally in His plans for mankind.

2 Peter 3:8-9

8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

John 3:16-17  For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

1 Timothy 2:4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Habakkuk 1:13 (ESV) "You who are of purer eyes than to see evil and cannot look at wrong, why do you idly look at traitors and remain silent when the wicked swallows up the man more righteous than he?”

God's justice was at the core of Habakkuk's questions. Habakkuk saw injustice, wickedness and violence in the world around him, and he didn't understand why a just God would allow this evil to continue. When God said He would use another wicked nation to judge Judah, Habakkuk was even more confused. Habakkuk believed God was just, but God didn't appear to be acting justly. So Habakkuk struggled to reconcile what he knew about God's character with the circumstances around him and with God's answers to his questions.

God didn't leave Habakkuk in his confusion. God graciously told Habakkuk how He would carry out His judgment of the wicked. In God's answer to Habakkuk, we learn about the glory of His perfect justice and the mercy we have received in Christ. First5

People, as finite beings, cannot expect to understand God’s timing, so they should not expect Christ to return according to their timetable. God delays the second coming so that more people can be redeemed. The day Christ returns, His entire kingdom will be inaugurated and evil will be purged from the world.

For there to be justice in the world, evil must be purged. Since evil lives within people, evil people will have to be removed from the world as well—otherwise, evil will continue to perpetuate itself and the world will continue to be a place of injustice. In emphasizing God’s patience, Peter indicates that God is willing to wait to issue His judgment (and justice) so that more people can embrace repentance and the gospel of Christ.

God wishes for all people to come to faith and be saved. Jesus has not returned yet because God desires that none be lost (or perish). Every day before Jesus returns is a day of grace and represents the possibility of more people turning to Him and receiving eternal life. God desires that none perish; however, this will ultimately be a necessary consequence of the world becoming good and holy again, as God will not force His will upon those who resist it. Faithlife Bible.

God will surely accomplish His purposes and promises, even though it may appear that He is slow in doing so. His timing is always perfect. The delay of God’s judgment is not due to slackness, but to the Lord’s longsuffering attitude toward His people not willing that any should perish. Obviously everything that a sovereign God decrees will occur. Here Peter is describing the sovereign God’s desire that all people would turn to Him and turn away from unprofitable lives. NKJ Bible.

Psalm 90:4 For a thousand years in Your sight are like yesterday when it is past, and like a watch in the night.

Ezekiel 33:11 Say to them: ‘As I live,’ says the Lord GOD, ‘I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel?’

Habakkuk 2:3 For the vision is yet for an appointed time; but at the end it will speak, and it will not lie.Though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.

Romans 2:4 Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?
