Acts 10:44-48

Jesus did not leave us alone after His ascension into heaven. The Holy Spirit is His deposit in us to guide and sustain us, to teach and life the teachings of Jesus to us. He will change us precept by precept into the template of His Son.

The Jewish believers present were amazed because they saw that the Gentiles had received the same gift of speaking in tongues that they had received. The good news had reached the Jews, the Samaritans, and now the Gentiles. All were united by the same faith in the same Lord with the same gift of the Holy Spirit. Willingness to be baptized is the consistent response in the Book of Acts of all who placed their faith in Christ. It is the appropriate response of a regenerated heart. NKJ Bible.

The Holy Spirit’s dramatic induction of Cornelius’ Gentile household into the Christian community echoes Pentecost and emphasizes that non-Jews are full citizens of the kingdom of God by faith.

This expression of the Spirit’s indwelling and power echoes the initial events of Pentecost. However, the expression here seems more likely related to worship since there is no need for Cornelius and those with him to speak a human language that would have been otherwise unknown to them.

The baptism of these believers before representatives of the Jewish Christian community signifies not only their identification with Christ but their full incorporation into the Church without being required to adopt the regulations of Judaism. Faithlife Bible.

Acts 10:44-48
44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. 45 And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God.
Then Peter answered, 47 “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days.

Isaiah 42:1 | “Behold! My Servant whom I uphold, My Elect One in whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles.

Isaiah 42:6 | “I, the LORD, have called You in righteousness, and will hold Your hand; I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people, as a light to the Gentiles,

Isaiah 49:6 | Indeed He says, ‘It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles, that You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.’ ”

Luke 2:32 | A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of Your people Israel.”

John 11:52 | and not for that nation only, but also that He would gather together in one the children of God who were scattered abroad.
