Romans 7:21-25

The only way to conquer sin is through the indwelling of the Spirit of Jesus, the Holy Spirit, residing in us who guides us, precept by precept, into the way, the truth and the light.

Alone we cannot overcome our natural tendencies, our sinful nature, brought about by the falling of Adam. Only in the unity of the Spirit can we be indued with the fruit which comes from the Father through the salvation of Jesus Christ. Sanctification is brought to fruition by the power of the Holy Spirit of God within man. It is the only way to eternal life with the Godhead.

The sinful nature seeks to draw us away from following God’s work in us. Defeat occurs whenever the believer fails to live in the power supplied by the Spirit.

Paul concludes that the problem is not the law; the problem is the flesh. From this argument, Paul moves into the solution, salvation found in Jesus Christ.

 Romans 7:21-25
21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. 22 For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!

16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.
2 Corinthians 4:16

16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man,
Ephesians 3:16

rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.
1 Peter 3:4

who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
2 Corinthians 3:6

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Galatians 5:22–25
