Matthew 5:16

Christ’s followers should be a safe haven for others. 

If we allow our lives to reflect His love and the fruits of the Holy Spirit to the world we live in people will glorify Him  seeing the difference that He has made in our life. While our love rises and falls depending upon the circumstance God's love never wavers, it is always the same, and it never fails.

The believer does not have inherent light; rather we have reflective light. As we behold the glory of the Lord, we reflect it. Therefore, we need to make sure that nothing comes between us and the Lord’s light

Matthew 5:16

¹⁶ Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

¹² having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation. 

1 Peter 2:12

⁸ By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. 

John 15:8

²⁵ And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed; and so, falling down on his face, he will worship God and report that God is truly among you.

Luke 6:32-36

As followers of Christ we show His love BY loving others knowing that He is kind to all of His creation including the unthankful and evil. 

Jesus died for our sins to give us a peaceful. abundant. eternal. life.  God doesn’t want anyone to perish. no. not. one.

Fulfill His commands to love God above all and love ALL people just like you do your family and friends.

This is the “golden rule.” Such love as Jesus describes recognizes the preferences of others and is sensitive to them. Jesus also notes that the reward will be great for the losses suffered while practicing this type of love. This reward will be a hundredfold—that is, ten thousand percent. 

Luke 6:32-36

³² “But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. ³³ And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. ³⁴ And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you? For even sinners lend to sinners to receive as much back. ³⁵ But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. ³⁶ Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful.

⁴⁶ For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 

Matthew 5:46

¹⁰ Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

John 15:1-4

Be prepared for the ride of your life……

everything will change! Anything that is separating you from God will be sifted and taken away leaving you with more and more of Him and less and less of the world. 

His love conquers a multitude of sins and Christ within us is our only hope for God’s glory!

Jesus’ purpose was to move His disciples from servants to friends. This would involve a process of discipline in regard to His commandments. No plant produces fruit instantaneously; fruit is the result of a process. Such is also the case with believers. Once the fruit is on the vine, the vinedresser cleanses the fruit of bugs and diseases. The spiritual counterpart is cleansing which is done through the Word.

The believer who lovingly obeys the Word of God produces much fruit.

Galatians 5:

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, ²³ gentleness, self-control. ….

John 15:1-4
15 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. ² Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. ³ You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. ⁴ Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

God controls the world that we live in and He appoints who is placed in power. 

We may not understand  but He does and His thoughts are far above ours…He alone is God and we are mere men! 

One thing is sure and true God hates arrogance and pride but He lifts up the humble.

Christianity is not about rules and doctrines it is about love….

God wants a relationship with you! 

How can it possibly be true that the Creator of the world wants to be your Father, your friend, your cohort in this amazing thing that we call life…..abundant life…..the God kind….but He does!

He wants to be beside you guiding you in all things spiritual, physical and emotional….He will teach you and be your helper in life! Give Him your work….your play…. your total love and devotion.

He is the only One who deserves it :) 
 there was no man righteous no. not. one.
so God sent His only begotten Son!

Mark’s Gospel is unique. It is not a biography of Jesus, like Matthew or Luke, for it does not dwell on Jesus’ family history or career. Instead, this Gospel is a record of Jesus’ actions and achievements. 

It presents Jesus as a Savior-King, 
who conquers demons, disease, and death.

None are righteous, though some, such as the Pharisees, fancied themselves as such. Instead, Christ came to call sinners to repentance. Jesus did not condone the activities of sinners, but required repentance—a change of mind that recognizes the need of a Savior and recognizes Jesus Christ as the only Savior.

Mark 2:17

¹⁷ When Jesus heard it, He said to them,  “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”

¹³ But go and learn what this means: I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” 

Matthew 9:13

¹¹ For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost. 

Matthew 18:11

¹⁰ for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

John 6:53-58

When we ingest the Bread of Life, the Word made flesh, our spirit comes alive. Unless we accept that we are sinners in need of a Savior and that the Father provided us with the perfect sacrifice, the perfect Lamb of God, we will die in our sins. Jesus died in our place so that anyone who believes in Him and in the salvation of the cross would be saved. 

His body was given up for us and He took upon Himself the sins of the world because His Father so loved His creation. By the stripes that He took we are healed, cleansed by His blood and sealed in the Holy Spirit, until He returns whose right it is to govern the world. 

In the harmony of Communion we celebrate salvation and strengthen the inner man. 

There is power in the redeeming blood of the Savior in the unity of the Holy Spirit.

Like Father and Son, the Holy Spirit is at the disposal of the other persons of the Trinity, and all three are one in graciously being at the disposal of the redeemed family of believers. The Holy Spirit’s attitude and ministry are marked by generosity; His chief function is to illumine Jesus’ teaching, to glorify His person, and to work in the life of the individual believer and the church.

Jesus had made it abundantly clear in this context that eternal life is gained by believing. These verses teach that the benefits of Jesus’ death must be appropriated, by faith, by each individual. 

Faith alone pleases God.

John 6:53-58

⁵³ Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. ⁵⁴ Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. ⁵⁵ For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. ⁵⁶ He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. ⁵⁷ As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me. ⁵⁸ This is the bread which came down from heaven—not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.”

²⁶ And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” 

Matthew 26:26

¹⁶ The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? ¹⁷ For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread.

1 Corinthians 10:16-17

²⁷ Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.”

Acts 13:46-48

Anyone who believes in the cross of salvation, who accepts Christ within and ask for His forgiveness, will be welcomed into God's heavenly home. 

God so loved the world that He created that He sent His only begotten Son to save anyone who believes in Jesus, the place where God meets man at the cross.

When Luke refers to the Jews, he is not speaking of all Jews. 

The Jews in this verse were the Jewish leaders, those in the positions of religious authority. When the Jewish leaders saw the crowds following Paul, they changed their minds about Paul and became filled with jealousy, especially since many of the people who had gathered were Jews.

 A person who convinces himself that he does not need forgiveness from the Holy One has already condemned himself.

Acts 13:46-48

⁴⁶ Then Paul and Barnabas grew bold and said, “It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken to you first; but since you reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles. ⁴⁷ For so the Lord has commanded us:

‘I have set you as a light to the Gentiles,

That you should be for salvation to the ends of the earth.’ ”

⁴⁸ Now when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord. And as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed.

¹⁶ For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. 

Romans 1:16

⁵Surely you shall call a nation you do not know, And nations who do not know you shall run to you, Because of the Lord your God, And the Holy One of Israel; For He has glorified you.”

Psalm 25:8-11

When we accept God’s mercy and grace in Christ Jesus we are hidden in His namesake. 

He does not see our sins but He sees the righteous Lamb Of God, His only begotten Son, who died in our place.

Those who fear the Lord pay attention to His instructions and thus learn the secrets of God’s wisdom.

Psalm 25:8-11

⁸ Good and upright is the Lord;

Therefore He teaches sinners in the way.

⁹ The humble He guides in justice,

And the humble He teaches His way.

¹⁰ All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth,

To such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.

Mark 3:20-21

Being a follower of Christ will not win you popularity…..in fact it most likely will make people shy away from you. 

There will always be those who will think that you are out of your mind especially if they knew you before. Joy in the Lord will be your strength.

Hang in there and show everyone great love and compassion for we are all fallen and in need of God’s divine help.

Opposition to Jesus came not only from His enemies. Jesus’ own people, no doubt close friends and perhaps even relatives, heard of His teaching and assumed that He was out of His mind.

Mark 3:20-21

²⁰ Then the multitude came together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread. ²¹ But when His own people heard about this, they went out to lay hold of Him, for they said, “He is out of His mind.”

⁸I have become a stranger to my brothers, And an alien to my mother’s children; 

Psalm 69:8

John 19:19-22

It does not matter what you think or what I think……it is His truth alone that stands and His right alone to judge! 

Jesus was crucified for every man, woman and child on earth. Only He knows the heart, the spirit, of a person and His thoughts are far above mans’.

The very people that He was sent to save crucified Him and only a few stayed  with Him to the end. He knew He would be betrayed from the beginning and still He came to earth. Keep this in mind before you judge others.

It was a Roman custom to write the name of the condemned person and his crime on a plaque to be placed above his head at the execution. Mark calls this title “the inscription of His accusation”. The title was written in the local, common, and official languages of the day. Everyone could read the message in his or her own language.

The chief priest of the Jews objected to Jesus being called King of the Jews. They did not want a messianic designation connected with Him. Pilate refused to change the title. As did Caiaphas, Pilate affirmed more than he ever intended. The title proclaimed to all that Jesus is indeed the promised Messiah.

John 19:19-22

¹⁹ Now Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross. And the writing was:

JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS

²⁰ Then many of the Jews read this title, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin.

²¹ Therefore the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The King of the Jews,’ but, ‘He said, “I am the King of the Jews.” ’ ”

²² Pilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.”

³¹ And when they had mocked Him, they took the robe off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him away to be crucified. 

Matthew 27:31

Be Fair.

Live a life of gratitude for His mercy and grace knowing ALL things come from God and you earned none of it…it was a gift.

It is the Lord who ultimately gives a person strength, courage, and ability to exercise the virtues of godly living.

Micah 6:8

⁸      He has shown you, O man, what is good;

And what does the Lord require of you

But to do justly,

To love mercy,

And to walk humbly with your God?

¹² “And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul,

Isaiah 1:17

Are we still the land of the free and brave? We are a country founded on the immigrants who left everything to come to America.

No one is braver than the parent who leaves his homeland and every possession to seek freedom and save the lives of their children. 

In Micah’s time the norms of society had broken down; everyone was out to destroy someone else. The people were pursuing evil with gusto. The leaders of the state were leading the way. Sound familiar?

Micah 7:2

² The faithful man has perished from the earth,

And there is no one upright among men.

They all lie in wait for blood;

Every man hunts his brother with a net.

³ That they may successfully do evil with both hands—

The prince asks for gifts,

The judge seeks a bribe,

And the great man utters his evil desire;

So they scheme together.

¹²For I know your manifold transgressions And your mighty sins: Afflicting the just and taking bribes; Diverting the poor from justice at the gate. 

Amos 5:12

¹¹Her heads judge for a bribe, Her priests teach for pay, And her prophets divine for money. Yet they lean on the Lord, and say, “Is not the Lord among us? No harm can come upon us.” 

Micah 3:11

Amos 7:7-8

 Jesus is the plumb line where God meets man. The line drawn in the sands of time where the spiritual meets the physical. He is the only way to the Father. He gives eternal life to those who accept His death in place of theirs with shouts of peace, peace to the people on earth. Jesus makes straight the way to the Father.

                                                                                                                                                                              A plumb line is a string with a weight tied to one end, used to establish a vertical line so that a wall can be built straight.

God asked Amos what he saw, then explained the vision’s meaning. Unlike the first two visions, God did not give Amos opportunity to intercede, nor did He relent. These judgments would be executed. 

The plumb line of God’s revelation in the law had been set in the midst of … Israel for many generations. Now God would stretch a plumb line to demonstrate how “crooked” the people’s observance of His commands had been.

Amos 7:7-8

⁷ Thus He showed me: Behold, the Lord stood on a wall made with a plumb line, with a plumb line in His hand. ⁸ And the Lord said to me, “Amos, what do you see?”

And I said, “A plumb line.”

Then the Lord said:

“Behold, I am setting a plumb line

In the midst of My people Israel;

I will not pass by them anymore.

¹⁷Also I will make justice the measuring line, And righteousness the plummet; The hail will sweep away the refuge of lies, And the waters will overflow the hiding place. 

Isaiah 28:17

⁸The Lord has ⁴purposed to destroy The wall of the daughter of Zion. He has stretched out a line; He has not withdrawn His hand from destroying; Therefore He has caused the rampart and wall to lament; They languished together. 

Lamentations 2:8

¹⁸Who is a God like You, Pardoning iniquity And passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He does not retain His anger forever, Because He delights in mercy.

saved we still need to learn from our mistakes.

With blessed assurance He guarantees that we will learn… {the easy way or the hard way is up to us} but God will do whatever it takes until we truly understand the implications of the iniquities that we commit.

There will always be consequences to our wrong 

actions intentional or otherwise.

This verse echoes the promises of Deuteronomy where the abundance or absence of rain in the land is associated with obedience or disobedience to the Law.

Ezekiel 21:24

²⁴ “Therefore thus says the Lord God: ‘Because you have made your iniquity to be remembered, in that your transgressions are uncovered, so that in all your doings your sins appear—because you have come to remembrance, you shall be taken in hand.

¹⁸ Since he despised the oath by breaking the covenant, and in fact gave his hand and still did all these things, he shall not escape.’ ”
