"I am the Light of the World"

John 8:12
12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

Jesus is the light of salvation and the hope of man and without Him nothing would exist. He places this light inside every man born......it is up to us to accept this light or to live in darkness. The Holy Spirit ignites the flame and shows us Christ’s truth! May our light so shine before those around us that they are drawn to Him.

Jesus is life and light; those who accept Him are “sons of light”. As the creation of light was the beginning of the original creation (Gen. 1:3), so when believers receive the light, they become part of the new creation.

Light-bearers:
Today’s world is full of pain and bitterness. So many groups feel deep disappointment. So many problems seem to defy solutions. A glance at the daily headlines reveals a tide of distrust, discord, and disharmony sweeping the planet. Can Christians be effective in such an environment? Not unless they recognize the pain and perplexities that abound wherever real people encounter the real struggles of everyday existence.

God could have used only angels or miracles or numerous other means to announce His message. Instead, He has chosen everyday people to carry His message. Working through ordinary people facing the ordinary issues of day-to-day life, God intends to let the world know that there is hope beyond the problems and frustrations of the here and now.

Are you fulfilling this calling in your life?

5461 φωτίζω [photizo /fo·tid·zo/]  1 to give light, to shine. 2 to enlighten, light up, illumine. 3 to bring to light, render evident. 3a to cause something to exist and thus come to light and become clear to all. 4 to enlighten, spiritually, imbue with saving knowledge. 4a to instruct, to inform, teach. 4b to give understanding to.

John 1:9-11
9 That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.

Luke 11:33
33  “No one, when he has lit a lamp, puts it in a secret place or under a basket, but on a lampstand, that those who come in may see the light.

Ephesians 5:18-14
8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. 13 But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. 14 Therefore He says:
“Awake, you who sleep,
Arise from the dead,
And Christ will give you light.”
