Romans 6:5-11

Christ died for the original sin and curse of Adam and Eve on mankind. He who was sinless took on sin and in giving up His life He put an end to sins dominion over man….Praise God! Man does not fully realize the power he has in Christ over sin in his life. Our mind may bind us but the truth sets us free. We need to allow the Holy Spirit to transforms us precept upon precept into the image of His Son. There is power in the word of God.

Some say old man refers to part of us, namely our old nature, our sinful disposition. However, the word man does not refer to part of a person; instead, the word describes the entire inner person before conversion, the person connected to the sin nature of Adam. Simply put, a believer is not the same person he or she was before conversion; a believer is a new creation in Christ. Believers are new people who are no longer enslaved to the old sinful nature. Believe introduces a new idea. Christians must not only know that they have died to sin and have been made alive with Christ, they must also believe it. Although before conversion they were still enslaved to the power of sin, now they are free to resist it.

6:5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. 7 For he who has died has been freed from sin. 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
