What does God require of us? He requires us to be fair, to forgive quickly and to be humble knowing that it is nothing to do with our goodness but everything to do with His.
He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justly,
To love mercy,
And to walk humbly with your God?
What a does God hate?
Proverbs 6:17
A proud look,
A lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood
Our God is long suffering. He is loving and kind. He wants no one to perish but all to come to Him through Jesus the Christ. Jesus alone could remove the veil that separated sinful man from our holy God. He broke the sin that held us captive. He gave His sinless life in exchange for ours. Carla
Psalm 18:25-27
With the merciful You will show Yourself merciful;
With a blameless man You will show Yourself blameless;
26 With the pure You will show Yourself pure;
And with the devious You will show Yourself shrewd.
27 For You will save the humble people,
But will bring down haughty looks.
The Hebrew word used here, chasid, for loyalty describes those who are faithful or godly. Elsewhere, the Hebrew text describes how Yahweh shows them chesed, unfailing covenantal love. In the Psalms, enemies are often described as arrogant or boastful (10:2–4; 12:3–4; 17:10). Faithlife Study Bible
The poet describes the actions of God in terms of the people to whom He relates. God deals with each person according to his or her attitude. He opposes the proud but delivers the humble, for the humble turn to Him for strength. The NKJV Study Bible
Proverbs 3:33–34
The curse of the LORD is on the house of the wicked,
But He blesses the home of the just.
Surely He scorns the scornful,
But gives grace to the humble.
Leviticus 26:23–28 ‘And if by these things you are not reformed by Me, but walk contrary to Me, then I also will walk contrary to you, and I will punish you yet seven times for your sins…
Psalm 72:12
For He will deliver the needy when he cries,
The poor also, and him who has no helper.
Psalm 101:5
Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor,
Him I will destroy;
The one who has a haughty look and a proud heart,
Him I will not endure.
Though we struggle to turn from sin even when we've witnessed its destructive power, hope is not lost.
During His earthly ministry, Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life" (John 5:24, NLT).
Through faith in Christ, we experience salvation, and when we find ourselves in proximity to sin, we can listen once again to God's Word and realign ourselves with the One who wrote it. First5
