Mark 2:18-20 The New and everlasting Covenant includes ALL who accept Jesus as Lord.

Jesus is Lord over all! He fulfilled the Law and the Prophets.

Matthew 9:17 Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”

The Old Covenant with His chosen people was fulfilled in His birth, death and resurrection. Now the New Covenant of the shed blood of the Son of God has come to ALL who would choose to accept it.

We now abide in God’s GRACE through Jesus.

When we come to the end of our self-sufficiency, our Lord of infinite grace and mercy will deliver us and supply everything we need ... if only we will humbly call upon Him (Psalm 50:15;  Philippians 4:19).

"God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world." This quote by author C.S. Lewis in some ways gives us a poetic synopsis of God's ways…First5

Rabbi Abraham Heschel’s reminder, “Awe enables us to perceive in the world intimations of the divine, to sense in small things the beginning of infinite significance, to sense the ultimate in the common and the simple; to feel in the rush of the passing the stillness of the eternal.” Yes and amen.

True, life can be quite scary. Daunting.
But these things that delight us, and warm our hearts and spirit are real. And there is power in naming them. Because it grounds us, connects us to what is present, and in front of us. (Interesting that the first task given to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden was to name the animals.)

So. A few of my favorite things...

Morning dewdrops on flowers
Clouds that smile and draw and dance in the sky
Garlic in butter on the stove
Music that invites my heart to open
A moon that smiles and comforts
A kind word
A gentle spirit
A compassionate heart

Mark 2:18-20

18 The disciples of John and of the Pharisees were fasting. Then they came and said to Him, “Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?” 19 And Jesus said to them, “Can the friends of the bridegroom fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast. 20 But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days. The New King James Version

Pharisees indicates that fasting was a characteristic of the Pharisees’ piety. As a religious practice, fasting could express mourning, repentance, or preparation for an event. It also could accompany petitionary prayer. In both Jewish and Graeco-Roman culture, a teacher was held responsible for the behavior of his students. Previously, the Pharisees asked Jesus’ disciples to explain Jesus’ behavior now they ask Jesus to explain His disciples’ behavior. Mourning or penitential activity would be inappropriate at a joyous occasion such as a wedding.

Jesus’ remark foreshadows His own future—His betrayal, arrest, and execution.

Jesus emphasizes the change brought about by the kingdom’s arrival. While the previous analogy  contrasted present and future, this verse distinguishes between old and new. Faithlife Study Bible

Jesus was not against fasting, if properly observed. He gave guidelines for fasting in the Sermon on the Mount. Here, the Pharisees’ fasting, perhaps twice each week is contrasted with Jesus’ feasting, probably at Levi’s house.

Taken away from them may be a hint of Jesus’ coming departure. After His crucifixion, Jesus’ disciples will fast, perhaps figuratively in the sense of sorrowing over His loss. The NKJV Study Bible

Matthew 9:14 Then the disciples of John came to Him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but Your disciples do not fast?”

Matthew 9:15 And Jesus said to them, “Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.

Matthew 9:16 No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and the tear is made worse.

Luke 17:22 Then He said to the disciples, “The days will come when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it.
