Daniel 12:4–13

And the end shall come. An end to violence and the evil of this world that will usher in a time of  permanent peace. Not the peace of this world which is temporary, but everlasting peace with our God through Jesus. Gods’ ways are sometimes hidden in Him.

There is a rest now for Gods’ people. This peaceful rest is found in Christ.

Daniel 12:4–13

4 “But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”

5 Then I, Daniel, looked; and there stood two others, one on this riverbank and the other on that riverbank. 6 And one said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, “How long shall the fulfillment of these wonders be?”

7 Then I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand to heaven, and swore by Him who lives forever, that it shall be for a time, times, and half a time; and when the power of the holy people has been completely shattered, all these things shall be finished.

8 Although I heard, I did not understand. Then I said, “My lord, what shall be the end of these things?”

9 And he said, “Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. 10 Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand. 11 “And from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination of desolation is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred and ninety days. 12 Blessed is he who waits, and comes to the one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days.

13 “But you, go your way till the end; for you shall rest, and will arise to your inheritance at the end of the days.

Expansion of Palestine under the Maccabees (166 b.c.)

Israel was plunged into a grueling period of religious persecution with the accession of Antiochus IV to the throne of the Seleucid kingdom in 175 b.c. From circumcision to Sabbath observance, many Jewish customs were outlawed. Opposition to Antiochus’s policies centered around Mattathias’s home in Modein, a town 17 miles northwest of Jerusalem. In 167 b.c. Antiochus desecrated the temple itself by erecting a statue of Zeus and sacrificing a pig. A guerrilla war ensued. In 164 b.c. Mattathias’s son, Judas Maccabeus, successfully recaptured Jerusalem and reconsecrated the temple. Judas’s brothers, Simon and Jonathan, continued the struggle against Syrian tyranny until 142 b.c. After that date, Israel remained practically independent until the Romans invaded Palestine in 63 b.c..

As is typical of apocalyptic literature, the book containing the vision is sealed until its contents become pertinent to the time at hand. Daniel would receive no further revelation on the matter, thus leaving his question unanswered. He—and those for whom the vision was recorded—had all of the information needed to persevere in righteousness through persecution. Faithlife Bible.

As Daniel stood beside the Tigris River, he saw three persons, one on each side of the river and one above the river. The two others refers to two angels, different from the ones Daniel had already seen. The man clothed in linen may be the preincarnate Christ. How long refers to the duration of the trials. Daniel was not asking when the events would begin. Daniel would die and be resurrected. NKJ Bible.

Daniel 12:9 And he said, “Go your way, Daniel, for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.

Revelation 22:10 And he said to me, “Do not seal the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is at hand.
