Daniel 7:9-11

And then life as we know it will end and a new dawn shall arise full of His glory.

And there will be peace.

Daniel 7:9-11
9 “I watched till thrones were put in place,
And the Ancient of Days was seated;
His garment was white as snow,
And the hair of His head was like pure wool.
His throne was a fiery flame,
Its wheels a burning fire;
10 A fiery stream issued
And came forth from before Him.
A thousand thousands ministered to Him;
Ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him.
The court was seated,
And the books were opened.
11 “I watched then because of the sound of the pompous words which the horn was speaking; I watched till the beast was slain, and its body destroyed and given to the burning flame.

Ancient of Days is a reference to God the Father as certified by the submission of “the One like the Son of Man” to Him and His role in judgment. Fiery flame symbolizes judgment. Its wheels refers to the chariot in which God rides to battle to exercise His sovereignty and to appear as Judge. The books record the names and deeds of those who will be judged. The idea that the fate of the wicked is fiery destruction is apparent in the Old Testament, but reaches its fullest expression in the New Testament teaching about hell. NKJ Bible.

Deuteronomy 33:2 | And he said: “The LORD came from Sinai, and dawned on them from Seir; He shone forth from Mount Paran, and He came with ten thousands of saints; from His right hand came a fiery law for them.

1 Kings 22:19 | Then Micaiah said, “Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on His throne, and all the host of heaven standing by, on His right hand and on His left.

Psalm 50:3 | Our God shall come, and shall not keep silent; a fire shall devour before Him, and it shall be very tempestuous all around Him.

Psalm 68:17 | The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands of thousands; The Lord is among them as in Sinai, in the Holy Place.

Revelation 1:14 | His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and His eyes like a flame of fire;

Mark 16:15-20

God doesn’t want any person to  perish. He wants all of His creation to hear the  Good News and be able to choose life or death in Christ.

Jesus chooses His apostles, the original 12 while He   walked oh earth, and after as in Paul, an apostle born after His ascension into heaven.

Acts 1:2 | until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen,

Those who believe in Christ will be saved.

These signs were evident in the early church. Casting out demons demonstrated victory over Satan. Speaking with new tongues began at Pentecost. Healing the sick occurred in several instances. Taking up serpents occurred in Paul’s encounter with a poisonous snake, which did not produce ill effects. The NT does not record Christians drinking anything deadly without harm. The final sign that Jesus was the Son of God is that He was received up into heaven to be seated at the right hand (the position of authority and power) of God. The obedience of Christ’s disciples who went out and preached everywhere challenges us to engage in that same endeavor. We can be confident that as the Lord was working with them, He will also work with us. NKJ Bible.

gospel (Gk. euangelion) Strong’s #2098: This Greek word was originally used to describe the “good news” of military victory brought from a messenger to his commander. It then came to mean simply a “good message.” In the NT it means the Good News of salvation: Jesus Christ came to earth to conquer the sin and evil which plague this world by living a sinless life and sacrificially offering Himself on the Cross. In obedience to Christ’s command, the apostles continued to share this Good News with the rest of the world because it is Christ’s life-giving message to a world that is dying in its sins.

Mark 16:15-20
15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
19 So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. 20 And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.
Matthew 28:19 | Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Acts 1:2 | until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen,

Acts 5:12 | And through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people. And they were all with one accord in Solomon’s Porch.

Acts 5:16 | Also a multitude gathered from the surrounding cities to Jerusalem, bringing sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all healed.

Matthew 28:18-20

Love is an action word and others will know us by the love we show them.

By living out the truth of salvation in our lives others will be drawn to Jesus. He is the firstborn of many who are called according to God’s purpose. What is that purpose?  To spread the Good News.

Showing others the way to the Father in the salvation He provided in the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus opens the door to abundant life. God’s gift to man is offered, freely and without partiality, to those who choose to repent, humble themselves  and accept it. It is not about our goodness but His.

Jesus gave up His life for YOU!

The Greek verb used here for doubt implies hesitation or indecision, rather than unbelief. The disciples are struggling to comprehend what they are witnessing.

The resurrection is the ultimate validation of Jesus’ divine authority. He extends this authority to His disciples to continue the work of the kingdom of heaven. Jesus has repeatedly demonstrated His authority over all things—the human body, demons, natural elements (such as wind and water), the Sabbath, sin, and even death. The disciples’ task was to reproduce themselves by going, baptizing, and teaching. Faithlife Bible.

Matthew 28:18-20
18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Isaiah 52:10 | The LORD has made bare His holy arm In the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

Daniel 7:13 | “I was watching in the night visions, and behold, One like the Son of Man, coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before Him.

Daniel 7:14 | Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom the one which shall not be destroyed.

Mark 16:15 | And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

Mark 16:16 | He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

2 Peter 3:3-9

For God so loved His creation that He gave up His sinless Body in place of our sin filled one. His desire is that not one of us perish but for all of us to spend eternity with Him. Knowing we are unworthy and unable to save ourselves, He provided the way… it is up to us to accept it!

God sits as the refiner and purifier of those who believe until we are conformed into the image of Jesus through the power of Holy Spirit.

2 Peter 3:3-9
3 knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, 4 and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” 5 For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, 6 by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. 7 But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

The false teachers and their followers acted like they had a form of godliness, but they were lacking the transformative power of Jesus in their lives; their decision to repeatedly choose and condone sin showed that they did not understand Jesus. The scoffers are claiming that Jesus’ return will not come to pass because, in their limited perspective, things have essentially been the same since creation. Peter counters the argument of the scoffers by claiming that the world came into being by God’s word and God has continued to speak since that time. Peter uses the example of God sending the flood (in response to humanity’s great wickedness) to show that contrary to the scoffers’ beliefs, things have indeed changed since creation. If God once created and destroyed the world by His word, then His promised judgment will surely come to pass.

As with the judgment of the flood, the focus of the future judgment is not creation itself; it is human sin.  Also like the flood, in the future judgment the ungodly will be destroyed while those deemed godly will be spared. The scoffers will not be tolerated forever; they will experience judgment. People, as finite beings, cannot expect to understand God’s timing, so they should not expect Christ to return according to their timetable. God delays the second coming so that more people can be redeemed. The day Christ returns, His entire kingdom will be inaugurated and evil will be destroyed. Faithlife Bible.

God wishes for all people to come to faith and be saved. Jesus has not returned yet because God desires that none be lost (or perish). Every day before Jesus returns is a day of grace and represents the possibility of more people turning to Him and receiving eternal life. God desires that none perish; however, this will ultimately be a necessary consequence of the world becoming good and holy again, as God will not force His will upon those who resist it. Throughout the centuries, scoffers have denied the Second Coming whenever hedonism and the basis for denying the supernatural reappearance of Jesus is that nothing of that nature has occurred in the past. The scoffing teachers would choose to overlook events such as creation and the Flood. The people of Noah’s time did not believe in Noah’s warning because they had never experienced a flood. They forgot, as the false teachers later would, that God created the entire universe by His word, something that they also had not experienced. Just as creation was by His word, the world is being sustained by His word. Likewise, the world’s judgment and destruction would be by His word. God is in control, no matter what happens to this world. God will surely accomplish His purposes and promises, even though it may appear that He is slow in doing so. His timing is always perfect. The delay of God’s judgment is not due to slackness, but to the Lord’s longsuffering attitude toward His people not willing that any should perish. Peter is describing the sovereign God’s desire that all people would turn to Him and turn away from unprofitable lives. NKJ Bible.

Romans 2:4 | Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

Love is an action word.

We need to immerse ourselves in the Gospels. Because the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge when we know God better we will do better. Help me Holy Spirit, precept by precept, to understand Your ways. The fruit of the Spirit is grown in proportion to our time spent with Him. To God be all the glory!

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 2:5 Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.

Philippians 1:9-11
And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, 10 that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, 11 being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

As Paul explains later, love (agapē) involves putting others before oneself. The knowledge that Paul has in mind is not just intellectual but experiential, acquired through acts of love. The Greek term used here, aisthēsis, refers to the ability to make decisions for the benefit of others. When the Philippians’ love abounds, they will be able to determine what is most valuable or beneficial to the community. This agape love is the natural results of belonging to Christ, whose death and resurrection bring righteousness to all who believe. Faithlife Bible.

John 15:8 | By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.

Ephesians 2:10 | For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Colossians 1:6 | which has come to you, as it has also in all the world, and is bringing forth fruit, as it is also among you since the day you heard and knew the grace of God in truth;

Mark 2:17

Holy Spirit engrave in my heart, when the actions of Christians and non Christians go totally against Your commands, that You love ALL people. You came to this earth to save us knowing that we are all sick and in need of salvation!
You don’t want anyone to live their life without You in it.

Your great agape love covers a multitude of sins…including my own.

In this instance Jesus was speaking tongue-in-cheek when He used the word righteous. None are righteous, though some, such as the Pharisees, fancied themselves as such. Instead, Christ came to call sinners to repentance. Jesus did not condone the activities of sinners, but required repentance—a change of mind that recognizes the need of a Savior and recognizes Jesus Christ as the only Savior. NKJ Bible.

With this statement, Jesus is neither affirming nor denying that the Pharisees are righteous. He is simply pointing out that the call to repentance and offering of forgiveness are for those who need it—sinners. Faithlife Bible.

Mark 2:17
17 When Jesus heard it, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”

Matthew 9:13 | But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”

Matthew 18:11 | For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost.

Luke 5:32 | I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”

Nahum 2:9-11

The same verses repeated. The message first came on January 3rd, 2018. It was repeated on 8 different months that year. Only 1 time on January 22 in 2019. Now it has been repeated every month since January 2020. Something has been brewing for a few years. It is an emergency call for our country. Something is coming….let it be Jesus!

Revival.

The Babylonian Chronicles—which are tablets that record the history of Babylon—state that the amount of treasure in Nineveh was “a quantity beyond counting.” The Assyrians had collected a massive amount of wealth from looting cities like Susa, Babylon, Damascus, Samaria, Memphis, and Thebes. The once mighty predator of the ancient Near East is now the prey. Faithlife Bible.

Assyria had despoiled many nations, including Samaria and the cities of Israel. There seemed to be no end to the loot that could be found within its walls. Nonetheless, even Nineveh was exhausted of its treasures. At long last, it was empty. Nineveh was the city of lions. Yet despite all the horrors that the lion of Nineveh had brought to other nations, it would no longer need to be feared by anyone. NKJ Bible.

Nahum 2: 9-11
9 Take spoil of silver!
Take spoil of gold!
There is no end of treasure,
Or wealth of every desirable prize.
10 She is empty, desolate, and waste!
The heart melts, and the knees shake;
Much pain is in every side,
And all their faces are drained of color.
11 Where is the dwelling of the lions,
And the feeding place of the young lions,
Where the lion walked, the lioness and lion’s cub,
And no one made them afraid?

Genesis 49:9 | Judah is a lion’s whelp; From the prey, my son, you have gone up.He bows down, he lies down as a lion; And as a lion, who shall rouse him?

Isaiah 5:29 | Their roaring will be like a lion,They will roar like young lions; Yes, they will roar And lay hold of the prey; They will carry it away safely, And no one will deliver.

Daniel 5:6 | Then the king’s countenance changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his hips were loosened and his knees knocked against each other.

Mark 2:27-28

On the seventh day God rested!

Our Almighty Father creator of heaven and earth…rested. He is telling us that we need to set aside a day to rest from our labors. This is His gift to man. At this time in HIStory He is giving the world a much needed rest.

There is a rest, a peace,  for God’s children we only need to enter in!

This enigmatic statement likely means that the Sabbath was established in order to give people rest. The Pharisees’ overzealous protection of the Sabbath has lost sight of its purpose and turned it into something burdensome. Jesus’ ministry often takes place on the Sabbath. By asserting lordship over the Sabbath, He claims authority over its laws and limitations, and he claims the ability to heal on the Sabbath. Faithlife Bible.

Jesus does not declare directly the innocence of either David or His disciples, but instead reminds His critics of the meaning of the Sabbath for humans and His own Lordship over it. NKJ  Bible.

Mark 2:27-28
27 And He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. 28 Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.”

Genesis 2:3 | Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

Exodus 23:12 | Six days you shall do your work, and on the seventh day you shall rest, that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your female servant and the stranger may be refreshed.

Deuteronomy 5:14 | but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates, that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you.

Ezekiel 20:12 | Moreover I also gave them My Sabbaths, to be a sign between them and Me, that they might know that I am the LORD who sanctifies them.

Philippians 4:8-9

I was gazing out my studio window before starting my Bible Study this morning admiring God’s workmanship. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the world,  created by Him, for our good pleasure and for all to enjoy…what a wonderful Triune Godhead we serve. He loves us so!

In theses unstable times His peace reigns in my heart.

This term describes that which is of honorable character. Paul commands the Philippians “to deliberate,” “to evaluate,” “to compute over and over” what is good and pure. In this way, Christians can renew their minds so that they will not conform to the evil habits of this world.  Not only the concept of “increasing in intellectual knowledge” but also the idea of “learning by habitual practice.” In some areas of their Christian development the Philippians had been excellent disciples of Paul, practicing what he had taught. NKJ Bible.

Paul envisions God’s peace as a soldier who protects the hearts and minds of believers from anxiety, fear, and doubt. Faithlife Bible.

Philippians 4:8-9
8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you. NKJ Bible.

Deuteronomy 16:20
You shall follow what is altogether just, that you may live and inherit the land which the LORD your God is giving you.

Romans 15:33
Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.

1 Corinthians 13:4-6
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;

1 Timothy 5:1-2

I am sitting here awaiting our Life Ladies weekly facebook meeting to start. We are having technical difficulties...and this is shown to me. Sometimes, with so many differing views on the political side of Churches and its members, it is a good thing to remember that silence can be golden.

Respect. Plain and simple.

All purity is a word of caution to young men. They must respect the purity of the younger women as the purity of a sister. NKJ Bible.

Paul writes about several groups within the church under Timothy’s charge. He begins by providing instructions regarding different age groups. Faithlife Bible.

1 Timothy 5:1-2
5 Do not rebuke an older man, but exhort him as a father, younger men as brothers, 2 older women as mothers, younger women as sisters, with all purity.

1 Peter 5:8-11

Satan only wants to destroy you because you believe in the deity and the salvation of Jesus Christ, King of kings and Lord of lords. Do not let him. If he can steal your joy in salvation he takes away your strength.

This was my post yesterday on facebook…1 Peter 5:9”knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world”. We are ALL going through struggles right now. Rejoice we are not alone.

We will be strengthened and made stronger by the lessons we can learn in this pandemic.

  1. Life is to be simpler than society would have you believe.
  2. Holy Spirit is within you for a reason, he will not leave you, it is imperative that we listen carefully to Him.
  3. We walk out our Christian faith in loving others and caring for them in the same way that we do our families.

The simplicity of the Gospel saves lives.

Be self-disciplined, think rationally and not foolishly. Be alert to the spiritual pitfalls of life and take appropriate steps to make certain that you do not stumble. Satan is our avowed enemy. He never ceases from being hostile toward us; he is constantly accusing us before God. Satan is both cunning and cruel. He attacks when least expected and desires to destroy completely those whom he attacks.

We are not commanded to run, but to resist—to fight rather than flee. Victory comes when we remain committed to God, because He is greater than our enemy. Like a doctor setting a broken bone, God will mend our broken lives and make us whole. God will make our way stable, despite the instability we feel living in a world that inflicts suffering upon us. God will give us the ability to succeed in all that we do for Him. As a consequence of our facing the attacks of our enemy, God will build in us a firm foundation that will make us steadfast and immovable.

God is in control of all things both in this world and throughout eternity. NKJ Bible.

Peter alerts his audience to the devil’s constant threat to the people of God. Within the wider context of the passage, Peter’s use of animal imagery depicts God’s people as vulnerable sheep in desperate need of their shepherd’s protection from all sorts of threats, including persecution and preying animals like the devil. Faithlife Bible.

Believers throughout the Roman empire were suffering both localized persecution as well as opposition from the devil. Peter offers his audience a final word of comfort. He reminds them that God will empower and ultimately glorify those who remain steadfast in their faith under the weight of their present suffering. Faithlife Bible.

1 Peter 5:8-11
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. 11 To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Proverbs 28:15  Like a roaring lion and a charging bear is a wicked ruler over poor people.

1 Corinthians 1:9  God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

1 Thessalonians 2:12  that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.

1 Timothy 6:12  Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

Colossians 2:1-10

Even the elect can be deceived.

Pray for the Body of Christ. Let all we do be under the guidance of Holy Spirit and in strict adherence to the commands of God to love Him above all and care for others as we do ourselves. In doing so we will fulfill all that Christ demands of us.

Micah 6:8 love God, seek justice for all, forgive easily keeping in mind we are all mere humans and be humble.

Though the false teachers at Colosse spoke of initiating people into a superior knowledge, Paul tells his readers that they can understand the mystery of God without this false philosophy. The Gnostics sought knowledge as an end in itself, but Paul reminds the Colossians that true knowledge will demonstrate itself by bringing people together in Christian love in the church. Note how Paul joins the Father and Christ together, emphasizing their common deity and unity. Paul not only emphasizes Jesus’ deity, but also explains that He possesses all wisdom and knowledge. The Gnostics thought only certain “knowledgeable” people could join their elite group; Paul teaches that every believer has access to complete wisdom found in Christ.

Just as the Colossian believers had begun with Christ, so Paul encourages them to continue in their walk with Him. Paul uses four words to describe the Colossians’ walk with Christ. The tense of the word translated rooted denotes a complete action; the believers have been rooted in Christ. The next three words, built up, established, and abounding, are in the present tense, showing the continual growth that should characterize every Christian’s walk with Christ.

This verse has been used at times to teach that Christians should not study or read philosophy. This is not Paul’s meaning. Paul himself was adept at philosophy, evidenced by his interaction with the Stoic and Epicurean philosophers in Athens. Paul was warning the believers not to be taken in by any philosophy that does not conform to a proper knowledge of Christ. The false teachers at Colosse had combined worldly philosophies with the gospel. It seems likely that the term principles refers to the elementary rules and regulations that certain teachers were seeking to impose on believers according to the dictates of human philosophies. Paul’s strongest indictment against the heretics was that their teaching was not according to Christ, and thus they were not walking with Christ.

Paul clearly proclaims the Incarnation, the fact the God became a man bodily. In contrast, Paul says that the fullness of God exists in Christ.

Paul illustrates the adequacy of Christ by demonstrating how the Colossian believers are complete. In Christ, the Colossians have put off the power of sin and the flesh, have received new life, have been forgiven, have been delivered from requirements laid down by human traditions, and have been freed from the powers of spirit beings. There is nothing that the Christian needs to add to what was received in Christ at the time of conversion. Paul emphasizes the sufficiency of Christ in order to refute the Gnostics and the Judaizers who respectively believed that special knowledge or works were necessary to make a Christian complete. NKJ Bible

Jewish traditions prized wisdom,  and mystery cults valued knowledge. Paul affirms Christ as the true source of both. Since the believers of Colossae have Christ, they have no need for the wisdom and knowledge offered by false teachers. Ancient philosophers used lofty arguments to persuade their audiences. Paul warns the Colossians that such teachings may appear logical, but their conclusions are false.
Because Christ represents the full revelation of God, and because believers are united with Christ, the Colossians can be confident of their salvation and the defeat of worldly powers. The Greek word used here, paralambanō, can refer to the reception of a tradition —in this case, the message of the gospel handed down from the apostles. Paul urges the Colossians to continue in this tradition, which contrasts with the human traditions of false teachers. The false teaching that Paul opposes in this letter is sometimes called “the Colossian heresy.” Regardless of the specific teachings, the fundamental problem Paul identifies is that human rules and traditions are being recommended as necessary supplements to Christ.

The Greek word for philosophy,  philosophia, literally means “love of wisdom.” Philosophy originated in Greece during the sixth century bc as the systematic and logical investigation of a subject. By the first century, “philosophy” broadly referred to any moral or religious belief system. The Jewish historian Josephus applied the term to the various Jewish groups—the Pharisees, Sadducees, and Essenes. Paul encountered two schools of philosophy in his travels—the Epicureans and the Stoics. In contrast, the gospel message has its origin in God.

The very nature of God is fully present in Christ. False teachers may have asserted that Christ was one of many divine beings or that God’s fullness was distributed throughout supernatural beings, not just Christ—claims that Paul rejects. Faithlife Bible.

Colossians 2:1-10
2 For I want you to know what a great conflict I have for you and those in Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh, 2 that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
4 Now this I say lest anyone should deceive you with persuasive words. 5 For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.
As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.
Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.

John 1:14 | And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Romans 16:18 | For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple.

1 Corinthians 14:40 | Let all things be done decently and in order.

1 Thessalonians 4:1 | Finally then, brethren, we urge and exhort in the Lord Jesus that you should abound more and more, just as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God;

1 Peter 5:9 | Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.

John 1:29-34

Behold the Lamb of God who came to save the whole world.

To ALL who receive Him He gives Holy Spirit, the very heart of the Trinity, who resides in those who believe! All praise and glory to Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

In the Old Testament, the Israelites sacrificed lambs at the Passover feast and as offerings. Jesus Christ is the Lamb that God would give as a sacrifice for the sins not only of Israel, but of the whole world. John and Jesus were cousins, so they probably knew each other. But John apparently did not know that Jesus was the Messiah. All John knew was that he was to baptize with water and that the Messiah would be made known to Israel through him. God had given John a sign by which he would know the Messiah, namely, the descending of the Holy Spirit as a dove. Seven times the New Testament mentions this ministry of Jesus as He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. NKJ Bible.

The purpose of John’s ministry was preparing the way for the coming of the Messiah. The Gospel of John tends to use “Israel” as a positive label for God’s chosen people, identified ultimately by their beliefs, not ancestry. Faithlife Bible.

John 1:29-34
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is He of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ 31 I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water.”
32 And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him. 33 I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”

Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Mark 1:8  I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

Luke 3:16  John answered, saying to all, “I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Acts 1:5 | for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
