Judges 13:13-14

God throughout Scriptures has set aside certain people to fulfill His special purpose.

The vinedresser represents the Father, the true vine represents the Christ and we as believers are the branches that are to produce the fruit of the Spirit... those who believe in the salvation provided by God in Jesus Christ.

We are to be a special people set aside by God to spread the Good News to the world which He so loves.

God demonstrated His compassion and pity on a wayward people who grieved Him continually by providing bold leaders to rescue them. In fact, the real hero of Judges is God Himself, who alone remains faithful despite the failings of His people—and even of the judges.

Matthew 26:27 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. 29 But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”

John 15:“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.

Vines are used in a variety of metaphorical ways in the New Testament. Most prominently, Jesus compares Himself with the vine. This reference is best understood against the Old Testament background of Israel as a vine, with Jesus as the fulfillment and completion of Israel.

In the Apocrypha, the vine was used as a symbol of wisdom (Sirach 24:17–19). Philo compared ridding one’s life of arrogance to the pruning of vines—the vine is reduced in size, and produces more fruit (Philo, On Dreams, 2.64).

Jesus associated the fruit of the vine with the coming kingdom. In Revelation, being under the influence of wine symbolizes the influence of evil. Harvesting the vine and crushing the grapes in a winepress is symbolic of the judgment of God, and a cup of wine symbolizes the wrath of God.

Nazirite was one who made a special vow to the Lord for a time of unusual devotion to God. Ordinarily this public vow was for a limited time. In all of this, the Nazirite was to regard himself or herself as holy to the Lord. After the vow was complete, the Nazirite would return to normal daily life.

The requirements for Samson’s Nazirite vow were somewhat irregular in that Samson’s mother was also required to observe a strict ritual.

Judges 13:13-14
13 So the Angel of the Lord said to Manoah, “Of all that I said to the woman let her be careful. 14 She may not eat anything that comes from the vine, nor may she drink wine or similar drink, nor eat anything unclean. All that I commanded her let her observe.”

he shall separate himself from wine and similar drink; he shall drink neither vinegar made from wine nor vinegar made from similar drink; neither shall he drink any grape juice, nor eat fresh grapes or raisins.
Numbers 6:3

All the days of his separation he shall eat nothing that is produced by the grapevine, from seed to skin.
Numbers 6:4

4 Now therefore, please be careful not to drink wine or similar drink, and not to eat anything unclean.
Judges 13:4

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
Galatians 5:22

23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

Micah 2:1-2

Power corrupts. Total power corrupts totally.

There should not be an elitist, wealthy group in a country that attempts to control it, not in the United States nor in any other country that claims to be Christian and guided by the Spirit of God.

The ethical teaching of the prophets regularly included oracles of judgment against greed, theft, and oppression, actions of the powerful in attacking the weak. To covet is not just to have a passing thought; it is a determination to seize what is not one’s own.

Micah 2:1-2
2 Woe to those who devise iniquity,
And work out evil on their beds!
At morning light they practice it,
Because it is in the power of their hand.
2 They covet fields and take them by violence,
Also houses, and seize them.
So they oppress a man and his house,
A man and his inheritance.

8Woe to those who join house to house; They add field to field, Till there is no place Where they may dwell alone in the midst of the land!
Isaiah 5:8

7They are all hot, like an oven, And have devoured their judges; All their kings have fallen. None among them calls upon Me.

Luke 11:37-44

Be fair. Forgive quickly. Keep the faith.
The persona that a person gives to the world may be totally different than the one that they live with inside. God sees the heart of a person. Money and position have little to do with the spirit of a man but the manner in which he lives speaks volumes.

The Pharisees washed the outside of cups, making sure that the cups had not become unclean through contact with a dead insects. Jesus pointed out that the Pharisees concerned themselves with outward appearances and ritual cleanness, while what was inside, what really counts, was full of selfishness and evil.

The Pharisees, the paragons of purity, were in fact the height of uncleanness.

Luke 11:37-44
37 And as He spoke, a certain Pharisee asked Him to dine with him. So He went in and sat down to eat. 38 When the Pharisee saw it, he marveled that He had not first washed before dinner.
39 Then the Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees make the outside of the cup and dish clean, but your inward part is full of greed and wickedness. 40 Foolish ones! Did not He who made the outside make the inside also? 41 But rather give alms of such things as you have; then indeed all things are clean to you.
42 “But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass by justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. 43 Woe to you Pharisees! For you love the best seats in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces. 44 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like graves which are not seen, and the men who walk over them are not aware of them.”

8He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?
Micah 6:8

25 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence.
Matthew 23:25

23 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.
Matthew 23:23

7Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; When you see the naked, that you cover him, And not hide yourself from your own flesh?
Isaiah 58:7

27 Therefore, O king, let my advice be acceptable to you; break off your sins by being righteous, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor. Perhaps there may be a lengthening of your prosperity.”

Luke 9:23-26

There exist within us both the desire to please ourselves and the desire to please God.

One wants to be served and the other wants to serve others. One is temporary and the other eternal.

Choose to be used by God to show others His love and lead them to His salvation in Jesus the Christ.

Although Jesus offered salvation as a free gift, He also warned that following Him would entail suffering and hardship. The wise course is to invest our earthly resources—our time, talents, and wealth—in what is eternal. Even if we lose our lives for Jesus’ sake, that investment will produce returns for all eternity.

Recognition of Jesus will be rewarded in the coming judgment. Failure to recognize Him will lead to significant loss.

Luke 9:23-26
23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. 24 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. 25 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost? 26 For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father’s, and of the holy angels.

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
Matthew 16:24

When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them,“Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
Mark 8:34

He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
John 12:25

For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
Matthew 16:26

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
Romans 1:16

But he who denies Me before men will be denied before the angels of God.
Luke 12:9

For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him the Son of Man also will be ashamed when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels.”
Mark 8:38

Romans 3:21-26

Faith alone pleases God!

It is not about denominations it is about God’s love for all His creation in the person of Jesus the Christ.

Romans is a mighty leveler, for it declares that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”.

Since all are sinners, it comes as a delightful shock that “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us”. This is the Good News, which Paul so eloquently and systematically defends in this theological treatise addressed to the Romans. Romans is a masterful presentation of God’s plan of salvation for Jews and Gentiles.
Paul wanted to exhort Jewish and Gentile believers to live in harmony. Paul contends that the Spirit of Jesus can motivate us to live responsible, Christlike lives.

Romans 3:21-26
21 But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22 even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, 26 to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.
Galatians 3:22

Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt.
Romans 4:4

Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all
Romans 4:16

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,
Ephesians 2:8

not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,
Titus 3:5

28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

Jeremiah 46:28

Though the world will crumble around us we will not fear for God saves those who have placed their trust in Him. Fear is a tool used by the enemy to kill, to steal and destroy God’s people….don’t listen to his lies. Greater is He within us than he who is in this world and no one is able to snatch us from His hand. To God be all glory and honor. Jesus wins!!

Israel would be preserved.

Jeremiah 46:28
28 Do not fear, O Jacob My servant,” says the Lord,
“For I am with you;
For I will make a complete end of all the nations
To which I have driven you,
But I will not make a complete end of you.
I will rightly correct you,
For I will not leave you wholly unpunished.”

O Lord, correct me, but with justice; Not in Your anger, lest You bring me to nothing.
Jeremiah 10:24

“Behold, the eyes of the Lord God are on the sinful kingdom, And I will destroy it from the face of the earth; Yet I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob,” Says the Lord.
Amos 9:8

“For surely I will command, And will sift the house of Israel among all nations, As grain is sifted in a sieve; Yet not the smallest grain shall fall to the ground.
Amos 9:9

For I am with you,’ says the Lord, ‘to save you; Though I make a full end of all nations where I have scattered you, Yet I will not make a complete end of you. But I will correct you in justice, And will not let you go altogether unpunished.’

He loved you so much that He gave His only begotten Son to die in your place

Good Friday…I mourn as a mother who has lost her only son and as a believer in the unfathomable mercy and grace that God has provided for us in the salvation of the Cross.

Events of Holy Week
The Gospel writers devoted much of their material to the events leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus. The final week of His earthly ministry began with the triumphal entry into Jerusalem and the “Hosannas” from the crowd that changed to cries of “Crucify Him” before the week was over. Jesus apparently spent most of the week teaching in the temple area during the day. His evenings were spent in the home of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus in Bethany. Significant events during this week included the plot of the Sanhedrin, Jesus’ betrayal and arrest, the trials of Jesus, His journey to Golgotha down the Jerusalem street known today as the Via Dolorosa (“Way of Suffering”), and the Resurrection. After His resurrection, Jesus ministered another forty days before His ascension.

Luke 6:20-26

Blessed are you when you listen to the Word of God, Jesus Christ, to love God above all and others as much as yourself!

In general, the disciples of Jesus were not wealthy. They were poor men who had come humbly to trust in God. All of the promises of God’s rule both now and in the future belong to such disciples. Without Christ all that the rich receive is what they acquire on earth. Luke records many of Jesus’ critical remarks about the wealthy. Their wealth typically blinds them to their spiritual poverty and their need for salvation.

“Blessed are you poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.”
A consummate communicator, Jesus began His sermon with a sentence that certainly must have riveted His audience. Probably most of them were poor. Their lives were far from easy; their rough, worn hands attested to that fact. The difficulties and hardships of their lives drove them to travel the hot and dusty roads of Judea to listen to this prophet Jesus. Perhaps He would tell them more about the kingdom of God. Most of them had placed their hopes on the coming of this glorious kingdom. They longed for the day when the righteous Messiah, not the cruel Roman governor, would rule their lives.

Luke 6:20-26
20 Then He lifted up His eyes toward His disciples, and said:
“Blessed are you poor,
For yours is the kingdom of God.
21 Blessed are you who hunger now,
For you shall be filled.
Blessed are you who weep now,
For you shall laugh.
22 Blessed are you when men hate you,
And when they exclude you,
And revile you, and cast out your name as evil,
For the Son of Man’s sake.
23 Rejoice in that day and leap for joy!
For indeed your reward is great in heaven,
For in like manner their fathers did to the prophets.
24 “But woe to you who are rich,
For you have received your consolation.
25 Woe to you who are full,
For you shall hunger.
Woe to you who laugh now,
For you shall mourn and weep.
26 Woe to you when all men speak well of you,
For so did their fathers to the false prophets.

Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?
James 2:5

“Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk Without money and without price.
Isaiah 55:1

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.
Matthew 5:6

John 14:25-28

Listen closely to the Holy Spirit He will guide you in the way that you should go.

He will take the teachings of the Christ and allow you to not only understand them but He gives them life making them applicable to everyday living. Rest in the peace that only the Trinity can give not like the world which is temporary but God’s way which is everlasting. Without the power of the Holy Spirit we can do nothing.

God gives us the way back to Him in the salvation of Jesus through the Cross and does not leave us alone to fight our spiritual battles but lets His Holy Spirit reside within us.

The peace that Christ gives banishes fear and dread from the heart, for Jesus is in control of all circumstances.

John 14:25-28
25 “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. 28 You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ for My Father is greater than I.

Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”
Luke 24:49

“But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.
John 15:26

These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
1 Corinthians 2:13

To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace.”
Luke 1:79

33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

Ezekiel 21:25-27

And what does God expect from us…..humility!

He lifts up and puts down whom He chooses. All things are under His control.

Come Lord Jesus it is Your right.

To God be all the glory!

The turban and the crown stand for the priesthood and the kingship. Both would be removed from Judah.  The priestly and kingly offices would not return until the coming of Him whose right it is—the Messiah.

Ezekiel 21:25-27
25 ‘Now to you, O profane, wicked prince of Israel, whose day has come, whose iniquity shall end, 26 thus says the Lord God:
“Remove the turban, and take off the crown;
Nothing shall remain the same.
Exalt the humble, and humble the exalted.
27 Overthrown, overthrown,
I will make it overthrown!
It shall be no longer,
Until He comes whose right it is,
And I will give it to Him.” ’

He has put down the mighty from their thrones, And exalted the lowly.
Luke 1:52

The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes; And to Him shall be the obedience of the people.
Genesis 49:10

He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.
Luke 1:32

And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”
Luke 1:33

Nathanael answered and said to Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”
John 1:49

In His days the righteous shall flourish, And abundance of peace, Until the moon is no more.

Luke 11:52

By binding Christianity in the doctrine of men we disillusion those who are entering into the love of God through faith alone. The Father takes us just as we are at the time and then molds us from the inside out into the image of His Son.

The simplicity of the Gospel of Jesus Christ by faith troubles those who think that they can earn entry into the grace of God.

Jesus charged the lawyers with doing the opposite of what they claimed their calling to be. Rather than bringing people nearer to God, they had removed the possibility of their entering into that knowledge, and had prevented others from understanding as well.

Luke 11:52
52 “Woe to you lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge. You did not enter in yourselves, and those who were entering in you hindered.”

“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.

Matthew 23:13

Mark 2:21-22

We must be changed from the inside in order for it to show on the outside…man cannot do this only the Holy Spirit can! It is not a man made show for others it is a spiritual change to be used for the good of others.

Christ within the hope of glory.

Mark records only four of Jesus’ parables—two of which he includes here. The comparison implies that the newness of His message, and of the new covenant to follow, cannot fit into the old molds of Judaism.

The Old Testament was preparation for the New Testament.

Mark 2:21-22

21 No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; or else the new piece pulls away from the old, and the tear is made worse. 22 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine bursts the wineskins, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins.”

John 14:15-18

The Holy Spirit takes the Living Word of God, Jesus the Christ, the Bible and breathes life into it allowing us to understand the hidden meanings and incorporate them into this thing that we call life. Without the Holy Spirit we cannot understand the things of God. Spirit to spirit changing us precept by precept into the image of His Son. We need to listen closely to Him.

All three members of the Trinity are mentioned here. Jesus prayed to the Father who would give the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of truth because He is truth and guides us into all truth. The Spirit of God is active in the world, but His acts go unnoticed by the world.

Strong’s #4100: The Greek word for believe literally means “to place one’s trust in another”; it occurs over 90 times in the Gospel of John alone. To believe in Jesus is to believe in His person and to trust in Him completely for salvation.

John 14:15-18
“If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.
1 John 5:7

3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.
1 John 5:3

26 But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.
John 15:26

22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
John 20:22

And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Acts 2:4

33 Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.
Acts 2:33

13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, pHe will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
John 16:13

27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

Micah 2:1-2

It is the Lord’s to give and it is His to take away.
Everything belongs to the Father. Every. Thing.

The ethical teaching of the prophets regularly included oracles of judgment against greed, theft, and oppression, actions of the powerful in attacking the weak. It is the Lord who ultimately gives a person strength, courage, and ability to exercise the virtues of godly living.

And what does He require of us?
To be fair, forgive freely and know humbly that He is the Creator and we are mere men!

Micah 2:1-2
Woe to those who devise iniquity,
And work out evil on their beds!
At morning light they practice it,
Because it is in the power of their hand.
2 They covet fields and take them by violence,
Also houses, and seize them.

Matthew 7:12

Love much, forgive freely, seek the good of others and then you will fulfill the Law.

Through love we fulfill the commands of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

This so-called “Golden Rule” is the practical application of Lev. 19:18: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

And who is our neighbor?………every living person residing on this earth.

Matthew 7:12
12 Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

31 And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.
Luke 6:31

40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
Matthew 22:40

Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.
Romans 13:8

14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Galatians 5:14

Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith,
1 Timothy 1:5

“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.
Matthew 5:17

18 You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.

Leviticus 19:18
