Nahum 1

God is all powerful, all seeing and all knowing. He is a jealous God who knows no boundaries when it comes to protecting those who put their trust in Him. His anger is directed to the principalities of darkness that wage war against His children. God controls all! Jesus was sent by the Father to save all who place their trust in Him. Jesus overcomes Evil and death no longer has a stronghold over God's people. In the unity of the Godhead
Discord will be replaced with Harmony….Lies will be revealed in truth…. War will be overcome by the lovable Peace of God.

1 The burden against Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.

God's Wrath on His Enemies

2 God is jealous, and the Lord avenges;

The Lord avenges and is furious.

The Lord will take vengeance on His adversaries,

And He reserves wrath for His enemies;

3 The Lord is slow to anger and great in power,

And will not at all acquit the wicked.

The Lord has His way

In the whirlwind and in the storm,

And the clouds are the dust of His feet.

5 The mountains quake before Him,

The hills melt,

And the earth heaves at His presence,

Yes, the world and all who dwell in it.

6 Who can stand before His indignation?

And who can endure the fierceness of His anger?

His fury is poured out like fire,

And the rocks are thrown down by Him.

7 The Lord is good,

A stronghold in the day of trouble;

And He knows those who trust in Him.

11 From you comes forth one

Who plots evil against the Lord,

A wicked counselor.

12 Thus says the Lord:

"Though they are safe, and likewise many,

Yet in this manner they will be cut down

When he passes through.

Though I have afflicted you,

I will afflict you no more;

13 For now I will break off his yoke from you,

And burst your bonds apart."

15 Behold, on the mountains

The feet of him who brings good tidings,

Who proclaims peace!

O Judah, keep your appointed feasts,

Perform your vows.

For the wicked one shall no more pass through you;

He is utterly cut off.

The NKJV Study Bible says this: Slow to anger indicates the patience of the Lord. However, God's patience is not a reason to disbelieve His final judgment. The Scriptures testify that there are no gods but the Lord; it is He who rules and is above all creation. Because we know that the Lord is good, we can endure the tribulations of life. The present sense of safety and power that the enemy felt would not last; the past judgments of God on His nation would not continue. The Lord promised to break off the yoke that the enemy had placed on His people. God's jealousy for His people is a claim for exclusive allegiance rooted in His holiness and His role as their Creator and Redeemer. We tend to associate jealousy with a self-serving emotion that usually results from feelings of inadequacy. God's jealousy, in contrast, proceeds from His holiness. Because He alone is the Holy One, He will tolerate no rival. With the promise of future deliverance from oppression, the prophet called for the people to live in righteousness and expectation. There is nothing better for the people of God in any age than to live in obedience to Him and in anticipation of His coming deliverance.
