God loves and cares for all His creation and we are allowed the privilege of being His hands of compassion to all people not just our brothers in Christ. If we want the blessings of God on ourselves, our families and our nation we need to share our material goods and monies with those who are in need from the provisions that He gives to us. If we are going to say we are a Christian nation we have the responsibility of caring for all people…..there is no other way. If the agape love of God is held up, all people will be drawn to His love that is shown in Christ Jesus.
Just as God showed compassion on them when they were oppressed, they were to show compassion on those who were now disadvantaged. Ultimately, it is in one's own best interest to have a concern for the interest of others.
24:17 "You shall not pervert justice due the stranger or the fatherless, nor take a widow's garment as a pledge. 18 But you shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt, and the Lord your God redeemed you from there; therefore I command you to do this thing.
19 "When you reap your harvest in your field, and forget a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to get it; it shall be for the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands
