Psalm 68:18 Jesus in the Old and New Testament

Jesus is the fulfillment of all the promises of Scripture.

His blood was shed for the redemption of mankind. In Him the fullness of the Godhead is revealed.

He was the Word of God made in the likeness of man. To God be all glory!

Colossians 2:15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.

Jesus, when facing betrayal from His loved ones and facing torturous death, fell on His face, cried out to God and asked for relief (Matthew 26:39-44).

Yet Jesus did something remarkable: He surrendered to God's will in trust. He said, "Not as I will, but as you will" (Matthew 26:39). Jesus' obedience to God's will accomplished an amazing good. We receive eternal life and access to an unhindered relationship with God by faith in His death and resurrection (2 Corinthians 5:21;  Romans 6:23).

With Jesus as our example, we can trust that our good God only acts in love (1 John 4:8-10). First5

Hear the good news: even in darkness, we can hear the invitation to be spillers of light and hope. And we soon realize (and embrace) that it is not just light spilling, but the permission to allow ourselves to receive the gift of light spilled. The wonderful gift of grace, and healing, and restoration.

And healing begins there, because we know that we are on this journey together. SabbathMoments

1 Timothy 3:16

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:

God was manifested in the flesh,

Justified in the Spirit,

Seen by angels,

Preached among the Gentiles,

Believed on in the world,

Received up in glory.

The Prophetic Scripture of Psalm 68:18 in the Old Testament

Psalm 68:18

18 You have ascended on high,

You have led captivity captive;

You have received gifts among men,

Even from the rebellious,

That the Lord God might dwell there.

This seems to describe Yahweh as a victorious king returning to the throne after battle. Faithlife Study Bible

The ascension of Christ must here be meant, and thereto it is applied, Ephesian 4:8. He received as the purchase of his death, the gifts needful for the conversion of sinners, and the salvation of believers. These he continually bestows, even on rebellious men, that the Lord God might dwell among them, as their Friend and Father. He gave gifts to men.

Having received power to give eternal life, the Lord Jesus bestows it on as many as were given him, Christ came to a rebellious world, not to condemn it, but that through him it might be saved. The Lord Jesus has authority and power to rescue his people from the dominion of death, by taking away the sting of it from them when they die, and giving them complete victory over it when they rise again. Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary

Ephesians 4:8

8 Therefore He says: “When He ascended on high,

He led captivity captive,

And gave gifts to men.”

Paul quotes Psalm 68:18 in reference to Christ’s ascension (Acts 1:9). The psalm describes God receiving gifts of plunder or tribute from a defeated foe. Paul adapts the wording to describe God giving spiritual gifts to the Church. Faithlife Study Bible

Paul quotes Psalm 68:18 to picture the ascended Messiah, triumphant over Satan and his hosts, distributing spiritual gifts to His people. The faithful stewardship of our gifts on earth will determine our position of service in Christ’s messianic reign. The NKJV Study Bible

Mark 16:19

19 So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God.

The final sign that Jesus was the Son of God is that He was received up into heaven to be seated at the right hand (the position of authority and power) of God. The NKJV Study Bible

1 Corinthians 15:4

4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures

The Resurrection verifies the fact that Christ’s death paid the full price for sin. The Greek term translated rose here is in the perfect tense, emphasizing the ongoing effects of this historical event. Christ is a risen Savior today. The NKJV Study Bible

Matthew 12:40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Acts 2:25

For David says concerning Him:

‘I foresaw the LORD always before my face,

For He is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken.

Acts 2:31 he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption.

Psalm 110:1

The LORD said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand,

Till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”

John 14:26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
