Loving all people….not just those who love us is the epitome of being a Christian. God gave us Jesus even though we diid nothing to deserve salvation and everything to deserve death. God shows no partiality.
Shouldn’t we extend that same love to everyone
that He places into our lives?
In this instance Jesus was speaking tongue-in-cheek when He used the word righteous. None are righteous, though some, such as the Pharisees, fancied themselves as such.
Mark 2:15-17
15 Now it happened, as He was dining in Levi’s house, that many tax collectors and sinners also sat together with Jesus and His disciples; for there were many, and they followed Him. 16 And when the scribes and Pharisees saw Him eating with the tax collectors and sinners, they said to His disciples, “How is it that He eats and drinks with tax collectors and sinners?”
17 When Jesus heard it, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”
13 But go and learn what this means: I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”
Matthew 9:13
10 for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
Luke 19:10
