Habakkuk 1:9-11

We can say our success and prosperity is due to our hard work and diligence and belongs to us….we would be wrong, dead wrong in the eyes of God. It does not belong to us it belongs to Him.

God alone controls the earth and it is His right to give and to take away. We need to be careful who we emulate and give credit to for our success, as a nation, as a people, it can all be taken away in an instant. The lesser gods of power, greed and control He will not tolerate. 

To God alone all praise and honor is due! everything comes from Him..every little thing!

Habakkuk had observed violence in Judah but Babylon relished violence. They had resettled numerous conquered peoples with little regard for them as individuals. They did not respect authorities and powers other than their own.

They scoff at kings, And princes are scorned by them. They deride every stronghold, For they heap up earthen mounds and seize it. 

            Habakkuk 1:10

They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold and silver, bronze and iron, wood and stone. 

Daniel 5:4

Habakkuk 1: 9-11

⁹“They all come for violence;

Their faces are set like the east wind.

They gather captives like sand.

¹⁰ They scoff at kings,

And princes are scorned by them.

They deride every stronghold,

For they heap up earthen mounds and seize it.

¹¹ Then his mind changes, and he transgresses;

He commits offense,

Ascribing this power to his god.”
